"Hellooooooo!" Harry calls from the front door, "Glad to see the house hasn't burnt down!" It's already after 1800.
"Harry, stop!" Anne admonishes, "It's Christmas Eve!"
"Something smells good," Gemma adds as she walks into the kitchen.
"Hi," I say from the oven, "I knew you were running late. So I made dinner. I didn't know your traditions. So I made a few things, and if you do Chinese for Christmas Eve I can donate the food to the church," I ramble as I stand there in my jeans and sweater.
"Oh, Silvie," Anne walks in to give me a hug, "You did not have to do this. Thank you!" I put the plate down as I give her a squeeze.
"Sweet potatoes and marshmallows?!" Harry yells, "And mashed potatoes. Can we eat now?" he laughs as I smack his arm lightly.
"She prepared dinner with a knife in her hand," Justin adds as he walks in from his shower. Dark jeans, blue sweater, and barefoot. I see Gemma looking over at him hungrily. Great, another one liking him- first Molly, now her. "She won't let anyone taste it, just like every Thanksgiving."
"So this is what you make for Thanksgiving?" Robin chuckles, "Can we come visit then?"
"Of course," I shuffle nervously, "but this was also to warm you up to something I did."
"Knew you were up to something," Harry snickers.
"I'm your Christmas present," Bruno says as he walks in through the backdoor with firewood in his hand. He places it down beside the fireplace in the living room. "Now I apologize for interrupting and I could-,"
"Nonsense, Bruno!" Harry says as he claps him on the back, "I feel comfortable having two of her three brothers watching me like a hawk."
"Bruno?" Anne asks confused, "Three brothers?"
"You're the security detail!" Gemma adds, "Nice to meet ya. Heard you and Paul were able to push the crowd back from that concert in Boston."
"That's why the name is familiar," Anne says with a chuckle, "And you are absolutely welcome here."
"I'm not even going to ask why you're here," Harry adds as he sits at the table, "I'm too afraid to know."
"The food is absolutely delicious!" Robin says in between bites.
"If she had Portuguese spices that we have at home," Justin swallows a mouthful, "you'd understand why I go straight home to her and mom after deployment."
"Her food gets better?" Harry stares at me wide eyed, "I didn't know you could cook."
"There's a lot of hidden talents," I wink.
"Well I can't wait to find out what they are," he smirks.
"No you won't," Justin puts his knife down.
"Oh, stop," I giggle. I look over at Anne and Nan, they're both smiling at me.
"Silvie, dear, what do you normally do for Christmas?"
"Well, we eat dinner together Christmas Eve, then sit down and watch Christmas movies. Usually Elf and Santa Claus."
"Classic movies!" Gemma giggles, "You sit on the throne of lies!"
"Byeeee Buddy! I hope you find your daaaad!" I quote from Elf.
"We're definitely watching that tonight!"
"Great, Silvie here will quote the entire movie," Justin whines.
"And Sammy?"
"She still believes in Santa so she goes to bed early. I stay by the fireplace and read before putting the gifts under the tree."
