"Oh, wow" I whispered in awe as I stared down the airplane's window.
Below us was the most beautiful city I have ever seen in my whole life. Not that I have seen many cities before but whatever.
"Your highness, please fasten your seatbelt. We are about to land." Said the air hostess, giving me a warm smile that I couldn't help returning. She's one of the sweetest people I have ever met in my life, not that I've met many people before but then again, whatever.
The landing was rough, I held onto my seat, closing my eyes tightly. This was my first and definitely last airplane ride, probably not but who cares? Too scared to think about it.
As soon as the plane stopped, I jumped out of my seat quickly and ran to the exit. I passed by the air hostess who was waiting for me by the exit, she was about to say something but stopped abruptly when I threw my arms around her and pulled her into a tight, quick hug.
"Thank you!" I said, excitement pouring out of me and pulled away. She was stiff, shock written across her face. Is hugging an air hostess you didn't even know the name of normal? I wouldn't know, my life has never been normal but soon enough it would be. Just thinking about that made me squeal in delight.
Lesson #1: Hugging strangers is not normal.
As soon as I stepped out of the jet, hot breeze tickled my neck. I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, I pictured myself as a normal teenager, going to a normal school, living in a normal house. I pictured myself as someone who's genuinely happy. Normality is all that I want. Is that alot to ask for? Apparently it is.
I opened my eyes to see that there were a few people waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. I squinted my eyes and scanned the small crowd below. Stranger 1, stranger 2, pretty girl with blazer, stranger 3, Cole, stra... Wait, Cole?! My eyes landed on him again. He was grinning at me, that annoying, stupid skyscraper. I sighed and walked down the stairs slowly, giving Cole dark looks all the while.
After what felt like a decade, I finally made it to the bottom of the stairs.
"Welcome to Los Angeles, your highness. I hope you enjoy your two years stay here. My name is Laila and I will be making sure that you feel comfortable and safe while you are here." Said the pretty girl with blazer whom now I know as Laila.
"Thank you, Laila." I replied sweetly.
"Did you enjoy your first flight princess Everly?" Cole asked smugly. He knew that I hate being called a "princess". I just never felt like one.
"Oh, I didn't see you over there, Trevor" I said, turning to face him. "Yes, the flight was wonderful!" I smirked when I saw him roll his eyes at me. Laila nudged him with her elbow, glaring at him.
"I'm glad to hear that. But my name is Cole, your highness. Not Trevor." Cole corrected with a forceful smile.
"You look like a Trevor to me though" I said, eyeing him up. "From now onwards, you will be known as Trevor."
"But yo..." Cole began to say but stopped when Laila nudged him harder this time. He scrunched his face in pain and rubbed his side. I am starting to like this girl.
"As you say, your highness." Laila said, glaring at Cole who was looking at the both of us with disbelief.
I stifled a laugh that was about to burst out of mouth. He knew better than to call me a "princess".
Laila led us outside the airport where a luxurious limousine was waiting for us. Too much for being normal. As soon as the car started moving, Laila began her rant about EVERYTHING. Literally. She talked about safety, entertainment, school, guards, you can name it. I even heard her mention her hair stylist.
