His eyes melted her, a warm chocolate brown. His hands moved to bury themselves inside her locks, pulling her lightly close to him. His lips tasted like sweetened honey and milk, blueberries and a faint hint of cream.
The air was musky and dry and she felt hot and bothered under her sweatshirt. “Stop.” She muttered against his lips, pushing on his chest softly. She meant it playfully enough but the cold gaze she was met with made her go slightly stiff on his lap.
“Why? Don't you like it?” He muttered, placing a hand on her hip softly.
“Yes...but it's wrong.”
He sighed, pushing her lightly off his lap. “This again.” He groaned, swinging his legs unto the floor and standing up. He walked into the kitchen of the small flat he and his mother currently resided in. The simple action made her heart pound with...rejection? “You always have to stop us when we are just getting into things.”
“Ed-”
“No Jess.” Ed hissed, spinning around to face her. “Why? We were having a good time there.”
She hesitated, his anger clear and evident on his face. “At church they say we shouldn't have sex until we're married.” Jess argued.
Ed rolled his eyes, opening the fridge and grabbing a soda. “I love God too Jess. But he created sex for us didn't he? As a gift...and anyway we're practically married.” He spoke, a small smile on his lips as he approached her. He sat down beside her, placing the soda on the coffee table before wrapping an arm around. “The law says we are still too young to get married. But I promised I’d marry you didn't I?”
“But-”
“See! We are already married because I promised to marry you. And God doesn't need a piece of paper or a ring to show that. Right?”
Jess looked at the grinning face of her boyfriend before glancing down swiftly. Her palms felt sweaty, folded on her lap as she twiddled with her fingers. “I-I don't know.”
“Come on baby.” Ed whispered softly in her ear. “For me please?”
She shivered. His breath just felt so warm on her ear. His arm around her waist just felt so inviting. But she knew that this wasn't what they should be doing. “Ed....”
He sighed, pulling a way from her. “Get out.”
Abruptly, her head snapped towards him in shock. “What?”
Ed raised an eyebrow at her. “You heard me. Get out. If your not in this relationship, I don't know why I have to even bother. Its obvious that you have some things to think about as your not committed to us.”
Jess was beyond shocked. How could such harsh words come out of the lips that had just kissed her so sweetly beforehand. “But out parents won't be home from the conference until 10 and I don't have any keys to my house. What am I supposed to do till then?”
His patience worn out, he reached into the draw of the side table pulling out a Bible that his mum assisted be kept in the living room at all times. “Read this. You love it so much don't you?”
She winced as the book was slapped harshly against her chest. He turned away from her, his body stiff and still as he sipped on the sofa. She waited-waited for him to say he was just joking, to reassure her that he wanted her to stay-heck anything at all but silence was all she got. “I love you.” Jess spoke hurriedly before she grabbed her book bag off the floor and rushed out of the apartment.
Thankfully, the sun was out so it was easy for her to make her way home. The rays bounced softly on her skin but no warmth entered her cold body. She clutched the Bible to her as she walked, the tears threatening to fall. The breath of the wind shook her weak form.
