Samejima's POV

"Samejima?" Soryu called out to the vastness of my room. As the slice of light pierces the darkness, it illuminates the navy blue cover of my bed.

I bolt up and squint my eyes, rechecking my clock to note that I had not overslept. "Yes, Boss?"

"My little Angel just woke me up, so there's no point in us waiting to give out the presents. Are you coming into the living room?" he asks, using a softer voice than that of a mobster.

It was his little girls birthday, after all.

I agree to get up. I shove on the tattered clothes that Soryu begs for me to let him replace, and redo the bed. I stretch my muscles and grab my Glock holster.

Sliding the gun into the hold, I remember how Soryu and Reina hadn't initially agreed with guns being available in the house. After consideration, they had agreed to them on the condition that they were not visible.

Not to mention, never in the children's rooms.

Checking my black jeans that were slightly too short at the ankle, and the sweater that was old and a washed out grey, I nod to myself in the mirror before leaving my minimalistic room.

Trying to relax my forever tensed jaw, I smile as Nakiro May runs as she sees me. "Sa-je-ma!" she squeals in delight and jumps as I bend for her.

The large living room was decorated with pink 'Happy Birthday' banners, balloons and lots glitter. Cuddling her into my arms I look around the room to see that Reina and Soryu were sitting on the sofa, as well as Mr Viper and Mr & Mrs Ichinomiya.

Daichi Ichinomiya sits on the floor by a pile of presents that goes above his head.

"Hello Princess." I whisper into the brown haired beauty's ear.

As I turn to meet the guests in the eye, "Still wearing that sweater?" Mr Ichinomiya asks with a smirk. "It's older than my son."

I suppress the natural reaction to scowl and place my god daughter down. Ignoring the arrogant comment of a man who could never understand, I question "Boss, would you like anything to drink or eat?"

Soryu looks at his daughter with a smile, reaching my eyes he nods. "The usual, for all of us please Samejima."

The females all smile at me as I head into the large kitchen, avoiding the picture on the fridge as I pull out the milk for the refreshments.

Reina was behind me before I knew it, and I jump slightly at the discovery. "Woah!" I say quietly, and she smiles as she puts a hand on my arm.

"I remember this, look at us all, looking goofy. This was what... 2-"

"-2 years ago. It was Thanksgiving at 12:10am. You and Soryu had gotten drunk together. Violet insisted on taking the picture because you were in a dress. I-I-I- Besides, you look very happy." My eyes remain low to the mugs in which the coffee was in.

"Say his name, Samejima." Reina says softly from behind me, but my body tenses entirely as I pour the milk into Mr Vipers coffee.

"Who's name, Reina?"

"Inui's." she says and narrows her eyes at me. I knew she was judging my every movement as I prepare drinks in the oversized white and blue kitchen. She knew me too well.

"Reina." I beg softly, pulling at my sweater and I have to stop myself from creating another hole. The soft material due to many wears was the only comfort I had.

"Samejima it's been a year, I know it destroyed you but-"

I walk out of the folding doors, taking the tray with me as I shake my head of the thoughts and memories.

Do not think of it right now, do not think of it right now...

...think of Nakiro... think of Nakiro.

"Sa-je-ma!" she grins up at me.

Thank you Lord, for that little girl.

"Happy Birthday, my little Fireball. Look at all the presents you've gotten...!" I speak softly and smile down at her. Placing the drinks down I notice that Reina had followed me back inside and had sat down beside Violet once more.

Nakiro- May was struggling with a present that she was attempting to rip open using her small and chubby hands. Her big lip was out in frustration and thinking.

"Daddy why isn't she opening them already?" Daichi asks, looking restless as he uses his hand to lean his head on.

Mr Ichinomiya tells his son to be patient, and I sit down with Nakiro. She piles into my lap and I get a whiff of the Lightsaber Shampoo her mother uses on her.

She had refused all the flower shaped ones. Apparently, weapons like light sabers were better.

No doubt of paternity there, aye?

I help her open her presents and smile she spends the same amount of time on the large expensive toys- like the motorised car the Ichinomiya's had gotten her, as small toys. She looks around after the presents were opened, and the wrapping paper covered the vast space of the room.

"Sa-je-ma..."

I take my present out of my pocket just as everyone gets up to leave. "A little bird told me that you were having trouble sleeping, so that I got this magical-"

She rips open the wrapping paper, revealing a small cuddly penguin toy. It was soft, and tattered to help her lie on it at night.

"-toy that can ban all the monsters from your room."

"Bans?" she asks and looks up at me with those big grey eyes. They were full of questions.

"Yes, this little guy makes sure all the monsters have left the room before it turns dark so that you can sleep."

Keeping my eyes on hers, I take the toy a lift it to her face. "He's going to keep you safe."

Her little eyes water, and her lip trembles, "Pr-e-mise?"

"Promise,"I say as she wraps her little arms around me. Nakiro gets up with the penguin in her hand and smiles as she shows off the toy to the audience.

"He's going to keep me safe! I'm going to put him in my room RIGHT now!" she giggles excitedly and runs off into the hallway.

As I look up at the group for the first time they all smile at me. "Unbelievable. I was out gifted." The hotel owner snorts.

"That was a lovely idea, thank you Samejima." Soryu says, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"You're so good with her." Violet comments, putting her son's coat on as they prepare to travel back to England for 2 days.

"Thank you." I cough, and avoid their eyes awkwardly.

"She loves her Uncle." Mr Viper says as he pulls out his cigar, and kisses his daughter goodbye.

"Uncle's." I say meeting his eyes, and a hush descends in the room. "He's still here, you know? He's dead, but he existed." I say and leave through the door to my room.

From the corner of my eye, I see Soryu shaking his head as he places an arm on his neck.

Reina kissing his forehead was the last thing I saw as the door blocked the cute scene. I bang my head against the back of the wood; my breaths coming out in long draws.

I hate this.

...and I hate them.
