I bit my lip as I anxiously waited for my best friend, Shigeo. We had agreed to walk together after school, but he was nowhere to be found. I couldn't even find his club members to ask where he went off to.
I was extremely worried. He had promised to walk home with me, and Shigeo never breaks a promise. In fact, he's probably the most loyal person on the planet. So why wasn't he here?
We usually met up at the front gate, and that was exactly where I was. I had been standing here looking like an idiot for an hour and 30 minutes. Kids who got cleaning duty and were exiting the building gave me weird looks as they passed, but I tried to ignore them.
------------------
The sun was beginning to set and I would have to go home soon. But I wanted to walk with Shigeo.
After all, he wasn't just my best friend. He was, uh, a bit more than that to me. He's actually my crush. And I've had a crush on him for a very long time.
But with his lack of empathy and his adoration for Tsubomi, I doubt he would ever return my feelings.
'I wonder why he even likes the wench anyways. He deserves better. But that doesn't exactly mean me...'
I quickly shook my head.
'Bad (y/n)! Don't think that. You've got a small chance!
A very....very very small chance....'I sighed and checked my phone. As I expected, there were no messages or calls.
Checking the time, I noticed that I had been standing in front of the gates for a total of 3 hours. The sky had become darker and it was deadly silent.
I let out another sigh and grabbed my bag. I placed it over my shoulder and began my trek home.
As I walked, I shivered from the cold. Usually, Shigeo would give me his jacket out of politeness when he saw me shaking. One of the reasons I liked him. He was kind and polite. He put others before himself...most of the time.
I let out a puff of cold air and speed walked the rest of the way.
Once I arrived home, I made myself a warm cup of (fav warm beverage). I let the warm cup heat up my cold palms and walked over to my window.
I had been lost in thought in the way here, so I didn't really get to admire the sky like I usually did. It was beautiful as always, with its stars, floating rubble, moon....
FLOATING RUBBLE?!I nearly dropped my mug as I focused on the debris in the sky. Surrounding each broken chunk was a very familiar blue glow.
Once I realized why it was familiar, my jaw went slack.
FLASHBACK
3rd person POV"Wow, Shigeo! It's so cool! You're bound to impress Tsubomi-chan with that!" A young (y/n) squealed.
Shigeo sent a soft smile her way as he continued to lift random objects up in the air.
He glanced around at the other kids in the playground and a blush spread across his cheeks once he spotted the girl he adored so much.
Hearts appeared to float around him as he continued to stare and (y/n) suppressed a sigh. She had liked him even back then. How could she not?
Despite her pain, she let a wide smile adorn her face and forced a giggle.
"Go on, Shigeo, I believe in you! If it doesn't work out, at least you tried!" She encouraged as she gave him a light push toward Tsubomi.
He glanced at the (h/c) girl in surprise before giving her a nod.
