It wasn’t at all a bad day to walk. The sky was overcast but it was still humid, and enough sunlight was left for her to get home without traveling in the dark. It was obviously going to rain later on so she quickened her pace. A scuffling behind her startled her making her stare down the empty road for a few minutes.

“Hello, Miss! Do you mind if I walk with you?” a voice called out. It was a deep baritone that was in the process of changing so some squeaks and creaks were mixed in. however strange the voice was, it was quite pleasant to the ear. Artemesia turned around expecting anyone at all. To her astonishment a boy her age was right behind her . Platinum blonde hair was tousled on top of his olive skin and green eyes twinkled beneath the dark fringe. The boy was tall than average and wore the customary uniform of her school. He was new.

“Honestly, I don’t care whether you choose to or not.” Artemesia said not unkindly. It was just her natural tone of voice and demeanor.  The boy didn’t take it the wrong way. He automatically liked her. She was smart, he knew this from class beforehand. Not to mention she was quite pretty with chestnut hair pulled up into an efficient ponytail and her fringe left to fall gracefully over violently violet eyes. And with this mutual “like” they kept walking.

“You’re awful quiet. Do you do this everyday?” he asked. Staring at her waiting for an answer.

“I don’t encourage familiarity but if you’re willing to try I suppose I could be more open.” Artemesia mused out loud. She hadn’t any friends in ages, she wouldn’t mind trying as long as he wasn’t too much of nuisance.

“I am Artemesia Alyssa Acerxxilia.”

“ Fancy name you got there,” the boy said with a crooked smile. “ I’m just gonna call you Triple A!”

“Yours?” Artemesia stated.

“My wha-, ohhh My name is Declan Drake Desmarin.” he said.

“I guess I’m going to call you Triple D then.” Artemesia laughed with a smile. She didn’t know why she was being so open with him. Normally her emotions were more guarded than a princess being protected from dragons. He seemed to make her let her walls down. Itwas a strange weird feeling that was completely new to her. She wondered what she would do next, maybe do the macarena. She laughed at herself, she was obviously deranged.

They reached the end of the block where the road forked off into two different sections. Artemesia headed off into one direction and Declan into the other.

“Bye Triple A!” screamed Declan over his shoulder.

Artemesia screamed back. “See you tomorrow Triple D!” She hadn’t felt this light in ages.
