She took one last sip of her morning coffee before dumping it in the sink, it wasn't satisfying at all. She didn't even want it but it seemed someone was always handing her a drink or something to eat. Claiming she needed to eat or drink something. Didn't they get it? It wouldn't make difference if she ate or not.It wouldn't change a damn thing.
The brightest light in her life had been snuffed out.
Murdered.
Her baby.
Her sweet baby was dead.
She shivered as the images raced through her head.
The blood.
It was everywhere. She looked down at her hands, despite the fact that she knew they were clean she could still see the blood on her hands. Her knees gave way and she fell to the floor in a heap.
Sobbing.
A face was suddenly before her, she didn't recognize it through the tears in her eyes but it really didn't matter did it?
No it didn't.
Nothing mattered.
She felt a pair of strong arms encircle her, a deep soothing voice was in her ear. His words meant nothing, they both knew that. He pressed on, promising her that she would be okay.
Bullshit.
She twisted in his arms, "Fuck you!" She possessed a level of hatred she didn't know lived inside her, an angry streak that lived in the deepest recesses of her soul.
Having to bury your baby would do that to a person.
As she screamed at him, he only tightened his hold on her. He ignored the viciousness of her words, he ignored the punches she was landing on his chest. He too wanted something to hit, something to help him push through pain. He knew who he wanted to hit, but he had yet to find him.
Once again he had run.
He couldn't really blame him though, could he?
Yes. Yes he could blame him. He ran and left him to attempt to pick up the pieces, it was an impossible task. The pieces were scattered all over the place and they were small too small for the naked eye. Their entire world had been shattered and only heartbreak remained.
"Mommy?" A small voice spoke, it was amazing they had heard her over the screams.
He finally stood up, still holding her in his arms, "Kim, sit down." He moved her to the kitchen table, "I will deal with her. You just sit, okay?" He placed the palm of his hand against her cheek, "I love you Burgess."
Kevin looked over his shoulder as he walked out of the kitchen, the look of anguish on his best friend's face made him want to throw up. She was lost in an ocean of grief, and she was floating further and further away from land. He was powerless to stop it, but dammit if he wasn't going to try he had to try.
Adam was already lost.
Literally.
He had stormed out of the hospital and never looked back.
Just the mere thought of it all made his hands curl into fists at his side, he would kick the shit out of Adam as soon as Halstead and Voight found him. Then he was going to wrap him up in the biggest hug he could muster.
This was so fucking hard.
Kevin kneeled before the little girl, she was beautiful. Her brown her pulled into a bun, obviously Erin had gotten her ready. Her big brown eyes, were incredibly sad. The tip of her nose was red, she too had been crying most of the morning.
