Al bobbed his head up and down animatedly, "Thank you. That's wonderful news, Maggie." He pumped his fist as he set his phone on the edge of his desk. "That was Maggie from Med. Jason is going to be okay."An audible sigh of relief could be heard, Voight clapped his hands together. "Alright, let's get to work. Find the son of a bitch who did this."
Jay stood up moving from his desk to the white board, he pulled an 8 by 10 photo from the file folder in his hand, "This was found tossed in the bushes about three blocks from Ruzek's house" Adam and Kim's house fell into the patrol boundaries of the 17th district but the case had immediately been transferred to Intelligence and the 21st. "A resident found it while walking their dog. Forensics grabbed at least five different fingerprints on it, we are waiting to see if we get any matches."
Kevin grabbed the photo from Ruzek's security camera, "We've got this.." he slapped the grainy photo on the board, "Our suspect appears to be a white male" the suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans, their face covered by a dark colored ski mask, "I'd say barely a buck fifty, and between five foot eight and five foot ten."
"That certainly narrows it down, doesn't it?" Erin rolled her eyes, dismissing Kevin all together. They were all growing increasingly frustrated with the case, Erin was struggling more than the rest of the unit.
Hank placed his hand on her shoulder, "Its just a matter of time, we will find the son of a bitch. I promise you that." He leaned down and kissed the top of her head, normally he wouldn't have done so out in the open, but this was hard on all of them. Erin was struggling with the case, not only were she and Kim best friends, Kassidy had babysat Lily a few times. This case hit too close to home in so many ways.
Erin just nodded her head and returned to the task at hand.
Kim cuddled Julian close to her chest, it had been a rough few days but she could finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Adam had insisted Kim go home for the night and as hard as it was to leave Jason it was the right thing to do.
She stroked Julian's hair, "Mommy missed you so much." She kissed the crown of his head.
"Jason owie?" Julian asked.
"Yes. Jason has an owie, but he's getting better and will be home soon." She explained, looking over shoulder as the bedroom door creaked open.
"Can I sleep with you Mommy?" Harlow asked.
"Of course." Kim pushed the covers down "climb in, sweet pea."
Julian scooted over a bit to make room for his big sister " Jason owie, Low-Low" he told his big sister.
Harlow rubbed his cheek, "I know." She smiled, "Daddy and mommy will make it better, right mommy?"
Kim smiled at her children, hearing one of the twins refer to Harlow as Low-Low never got old. She loved watching Harlow comforting her little bothers, she was truly a 'little mommy'. It was precious.
"Daddy is doing his best, he's staying with Jason tonight. Plus all of the nurses and doctors are making sure Jason gets better." Kim scooted up in the bed a bit, "When daddy called earlier he said that the doctor was going to let Jason come home soon."
Both children squealed with delight.
"Alright, Jason. Let's see what's on tv tonight." Adam whispered to his son, Jason had become a bit of a night owl. He spent most of the day sleeping and once the sun set he seemed to have an endless supply of energy, despite having had major surgery just ten days ago.
