Yifan's pack came back to their original territory after a short trip he took with some younger Omegas, Betas and Alphas. They had to learn the borders of their territory anyways so the Head Alpha thought that it would be easier for the young wolves with a fun idea like mini holidays. His deputy ChanYeol stayed behind with older or pregnant wolves and the pups. As usual, the teenagers formed small groups on their way back home. While Yifan led the group, there was a small Alpha named MinSeok walking at the end, making sure that none of the younger ones fell behind. He just turned nineteen, making him an adult (he was the latest adult of their pack). Wolves would find their rank after their sixteenth birthday.
MinSeok was rather quiet and not that outgoing like the other teen Alphas. They always play-fought and showed off in front of pretty Omegas and Betas. MinSeok mostly sat next to them and read books. Everyone suspected him to be a Beta with his outshining intelligence and preference for using his head rather than his animalistic instincts. So everyone –including himself- was shocked that the small reserved male got the highest rank, everyone except Yifan.
Directly in front of him was a trio of Omegas talking about the unmated Alphas in the pack. MinSeok only scoffed, hearing all the compliments for his fellow Alpha friends, yet he didn't come up in the conversation. He felt grateful for that. The Omegas –called KyungSoo, LuHan and JongDae- chattered along and MinSeok concentrated on the fresh and good smelling forest.
But then LuHan, who was actually his best friend, had to mention his name, of course. No Alpha was spared. It was actual hell hearing the cruel rankings from 1 to 10, but MinSeok knew that the other Betas and Alphas were no different when it came to Omegas. He now concentrated on their conversation. JongDae scoffed, making KyungSoo roll his eyes in annoyance and LuHan sighed a bit disappointed.
"He seems so boring", JongDae threw his head back and laughed in an annoyingly high-pitched tone that made MinSeok cringe.
"Seems" LuHan empathized, wanting JongDae to not judge a book by its cover. MinSeok felt some kind of gratefulness, even though LuHan brought him up in their conversation.
"You don't even know him" LuHan said. He probably felt the need to defend his best friend now.
"Ohh, do you like him, Luhannie?" JongDae teased and again, let out that annoying laugh. LuHan just pushed him aside, which resulted in JongDae tripping over a root and a maniacally laughing KyungSoo.
"Well, as I was saying, he's not that interesting. I mean, he doesn't want to stand out like an Alpha should. He doesn't want to fight or hunt. He just reads. He's not looking at any of the Omegas except for you. That's so weird."
Those words hit a sensitive spot inside MinSeok. His alpha-defending system made him angry to prevent him from becoming vulnerable. He just wanted to be let alone.
Just because this seventeen year old didn't acknowledge what he did for the pack and he had nothing better to do than talking bad about others. Unconsciously, he started to dispense his pheromones. Since they almost arrived back home and everyone would find their way back, MinSeok used the situation to walk towards Yifan. He also couldn't stand the disrespectful and cheeky Omega anymore. He picked up his pace and walked straight ahead of the trio –he didn't bump into JongDae on purpose. His ears still trained on the conversation he could pick up a "but he's attractive" from KyungSoo and a "and he smells great" from his best friend that made his ego swell with pride.
