Excuse any mistakes! Graduation day Onika "Are you nervous?" Beyoncé asked me.
"No, are you?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"You'll see."
"Don't leave me-"
"And now we we'll have a speech from our valedictorian."
"Beyoncé, what are you nervous about?"
"Nothing, go." She pushed me out into the stage. I smiled and walked to the podium.
"Hi, most of you already now me and if you don't, I'm Onika but most people just call me Nicki. I know your program says a speech from your valedictorian but she's not really into public speaking so we went with the next best thing: salutatorian. And when he couldn't show up they came and found me." I paused for a moment, letting everyone get their laughs out.
"I'm kidding, I am your salutatorian, which I'm still mad as hell about. But anyways, raise you hand if you're sitting in this room right now." Everyone raised their hands.
"Raise you hand if you're going to college." Almost all of the students raised their hands.
"Now raise your hand if you plan on having a job."
"Congratulations, everyone in here has made a choice. Honestly, I suck at making choices. It's hard to pick between where you should be and where you want to be but I've still successfully made thousands of them. Okay so maybe not thousands of them but pretty close to it."
"This year was full of choices. I had to pick colleges, majors, classes, places to live and so on. I sent a letter off to twelve colleges, changed my major twice, found five different apartments that I wanted and couldn't decide on what to have for breakfast this morning. Crazy, right?"
"But of you don't take a chance, you won't stand a chance. So that's what makes this fun. Even if you fail now you know. It's like an ongoing game, and the only time you run out of chances is when you stop taking them."
"So ignore what people tell you, live your life, take chances, be crazy. Because right now is the oldest you've ever been and the youngest you'll ever be again. Thank you." I walked off the stage and Bey hugged me tightly.
"Is our actual valedictorian ready?"
"Yes." Beyoncé smiled and took the wireless microphone to the stage.
"Hey I'm Beyoncé and I'm not good at this public speaking thing so please bare with me. Honestly, I know about ten people in this room, most of them being my teachers then my mom and of course my lovely girlfriend. So, umm...really not good at this speaking thing. However I'm pretty good at art which brings me to my next and only point." She walked to the end and turned on the stage lights.
"This is a small collection that I've been working on for a long time now and I hope you like it." She pulled the black sheet off of the first stand thingy, I don't know what they're called art is her thing not mine.
