Today is now Friday. The day I run away. After this nothing will be the same. No backing out.
Audrey says she has a friend that will let us stay with them for a while and all of us have money that we saved. I can't believe I'm doing this, all because I wanted to prove someone wrong. I'm scared, that's all I feel right now. It feels like something bad is going to happen if I do this, but I can't back out now. I agreed to this and I will follow through with it.
After school Ethan, Audrey, and I are supposed to meet up at Ethan's. I left a note this morning before I left that we were running low on food and that after school I'd get more. I did get more but it was before school. Once she realizes I'm not coming home she'll check my room and see the note I left telling her where the groceries are, (I put them in the cooler outside). I'll ride with Audrey on the bus and then her and I will be walking to Ethan's, after that we all are going to ride the greyhound bus to New Orleans.
I'm not sure how this is supposed to work out, but it has to. Otherwise, we all will be in deep shit.
As I walking to my next class as Ethan strolls to my side. "You remember how we're supposed to do this, right?" He whispers.
"Yes, how could I forget considering you and Audrey showed up last night at two in the freaking morning to go over it?" I say exasperatedly.
"Well, you easily get distracted so I thought, maybe Liam was clouding your thoughts."
"Well he's not, and he's not going to. All him and I have been doing is having a few very nice conversations." I say crossing my arms. My face morphs into confusion as a thought pops into my head. "Hey, wait. How do you know I've been talking to him?" All he does is shrug. Just fucking shrug. I grab him by his sleeve to stop him and it works better than I intended. He stops abruptly and turns around looking annoyed.
"I've been keeping an eye on you. Are you fucking happy now?" Ethan says through gritted teeth. I start to ask him why he has been but he cuts me off in the middle of my sentence. "Because I was making sure you weren't stupid enough to tell anyone. Now stop asking questions and just walk with me to class like we are normal high schoolers. Got it?"
"Whatever." If I have to walk with him, I will walk with him in silence. He can talk to me, but I won't talk to him. I'll talk to other people though, people like Liam. That should give him something to think about. I smirk to myself and carry on to class. Ethan walks off and it's just me again.
Once inside the classroom I slide into a seat by the back. Liam walks in followed by a group of babies, also known as: a group of giggly blondes and brunette with skinny waists and long legs. Liam sees me and walks over smiling.
"Hey Imogen." He says while slipping into the seat on my left.
"Hey Imogen." I turn around in confusion and see Ethan glaring. I would say he slides into the seat next to me, but that's not exactly what happened. He takes my backpack and drops it on the ground, pulls back the chair, and plops down in it. Liam and I exchange glances in confusion.
"I'm gonna go sit over there for today. I'll talk to you later, okay?" He says offering a small smile.
"Yeah sure" I say returning the smile. I turn to Ethan glaring. "What the hell was that for?" I whisper/yell At him.
"It was getting tedious of sitting over there and trying to read your lips. So I thought I could get a front row seat today instead." If looks could kill, he would be so dead. I glare at him and look away and stare directly ahead of me.
"Go. Away. Before I tear you limb from limb." I growled silently.
"Hey now. That's no way to treat a friend. I mean after all, we will be having to live with each other for awhile. Unless you wanna cancel on Audrey and me." He says smirking. I hate you.
I say nothing and look straight ahead with my lips pursed. The period crawls along slowly and painfully with Ethan constantly finding new ways to annoy me. I want to cancel, but my want for proving Ethan wrong, is so much fucking stronger. As soon as the bell rings, I'm already on my feet and out the door with my backpack. With Ethan chasing behind me I walk faster towards the lady's room.
"Imogen," Ethan says "wait. Don't go. Hold on." Nope, fuck you. I keep my back turned towards him and give him the middle finger. I walk faster and open the door quickly, shutting it as fast as I can. I hear him knock on the door and I turn around as he speaks. "Imogen, will you please come out?"
"Ethan, will you please go the fuck away?" I say in the same sassy tone he did.
"Don't think I won't come in there." He says. I say nothing and just stand in the bathroom with my arms crossed. I highly doubt he would co-
Ethan literally opens the door strides towards me and takes me by the wrist and pulls me out. I'm to stunned to even protest. He looks towards me and slightly smirks. He gives me a "I told you so" look and just pulls me outside. When I see Audrey waiting with her back pressed in the tree I can tell there's been a slight change of plans.
"What's going on?" I question.
"So what we originally were going to do is now changed. We're still leaving and all, but we're leaving now." She says and smiles slightly.
