I rub my eyes and yawn as I walk into the kitchen. My eyes are practically slits by how low they are. I start to randomly open cabinets in search of cereal.
"How many damn pans and pots do you need?" I ask under my breath.
"Knock knock." I freeze in mid reach and turn around hoping I'm just hearing things. "Listen little masokitty, I didn't exactly mean to take it that far yesterday. I thought you were enjoying yourself." All I can do is gape at Jasper.
"Enjoying myself? You practically molested me! You did molest me!"
"Woah, woah, I may have gotten a bit grabey, but I didn't molest you." Jasper says while speaking with his hands.
"I was practically crying while I gagged on your tongue!" I snapped. How does he not think that?
"Whatever, say what you want little masokitty. Anyways, since you're still in high school we can't let you not get your education." Jasper stops and looks at me to make sure I'm still listening. With my hands I urge him to go on. "So until we get things figured out, we've got two and a half choices. You three can either take online courses, we can hire a personal teacher, or we can try to get you guys into a nearby high school or the junior college. Sound good?"
School? School has never really bothered me that much, but it's never been my favorite place either. I never really had friends, but I do now, so yes? No? It doesn't hurt to try...
"Sure..." I say.
"Good," Jasper says smiling "because you have no choice in the matter."
"Oh."
"Yeah. So that's all I wanted to say, and if you're looking for breakfast, you should try the refrigerator." He says with his back turned at me while he walks out of the kitchen.
"Well I was looking for the cereal!" I call out to him.
"Refrigerator!" He yells. Who the hell puts cereal in the refrigerator? I open it and see every food you could possibly think of, except cereal. I groan and shut it.
"Hey, Imogen. What ya lookin for?" Audrey says while entering the kitchen.
"Cereal."
"Ohhh. Refrigerator." She says and walks out.
"But I already checked."
"Check again." I groan and put my head down harder on the granite counter than I intended. My feet lead me to the refrigerator once more and I sluggishly open it. I check both draws, the clear lid things, the shelves, and every nook and cranny inside it. After searching for about ten minutes, I lean my head in the refrigerator and rest it on a shelf.
"Hey Imogen," Cam says "what you doing? Wait, what are you doing?" I laugh lightly for a second before I pull my head out. My eyes find his and I can't help but notice the extremely confused etched into his features.
"Being forced to suffer while I look for cereal." He gives me another confused look and walks toward me. His hands close the cool doors and leans in to kiss me. He stops a few inches from my face, I lean in, close my eyes, and kiss him. Cam pulls back after a second and looks down at me. He smiles and slowly brings a box of cereal in between us.
"Where the hell did you that?" I say stunned.
"Where did they tell you the cereal was?" Cam asks laughing.
"The refrigerator!" I whine. "Seriously though, where did you get that? Are you secretly a magician or something?"
"Haha, no I'm not sadly. However, I did get it from a magical place" he says winking at me.
"Uh huh, and where was this so called magical place?"
"The refrigerator."
"No."
"Yes."
"On top of the refrigerator."
"God damn it."
"Huh?"
"Nothing."
"Um, uh, okay haha. Anyways," Cam starts "so since you three are still in school-"
"Jasper already told me. You don't need to explain." I say without thinking. Before saying anything else I look at Cam. His chest is rising up and down more quickly than usual.
"He what?" His tone is crisp, sharp, like a deadly blizzard.
"Told me." I say quietly. I regret saying anything, I should've just done what I used to do best, stay silent. "He told me," I clear my throat "about us going to school."
"The two of us did not discuss this until late last night when you were passed out. So please, tell me when you two had this lovely conversation, that didn't include me."
"Cam, listen, it's nothing to get upset over. We-"
"Upset, I'm not upset. I'm fucking pissed off Imogen. He shouldn't even be talking to you right now. In fact you should resent him, fucking avoid him Imogen." Cam stops and looks at me. "Fuck, just stay away from him. What the hell were you even thinking? Jesus Christ, I thought you would be smarte-"
"You have no right to talk to me like that Cameron. I understand being protective over friends, but you are not my boyfriend." Now it's me with the heaving chest. Who the hell does he think he is? At first he's to stunned by my two itty bitty sentences, but now as he comes out of it, he starts chuckling, which then leads to laughing.
"Not your boyfriend huh?" He says laughing a little. Cam stops laughing completely and looks at me with an icy gaze. "Then what the fuck was that last night?"
"I meant to kiss your cheek last night, you were the one that turned your head" I say shrugging.
"That's it? That's all you got to say? You're not even going to try to fight?" He says irritated.
"There's nothing to fight for Cameron! You, me, we aren't together! We never were! All we are friends and that's it for now."
"No," I look at Cameron's forest green eyes "we aren't even that. Have fun dealing with the next punk. alone." I watch Cam turn his back and walk away. What the fuck? Why is he so hurt by this? He barely even knows me. Next thing I hear is a door slamming. Shit. I run up the stairs to his room, I gently knock. "Go away. I don't wanna talk to you."
"Cam come on, open up the door." My ear is to the door listening, struggling to hear through.
"Did you not fucking hear me? I said GO THE FUCK AWAY!" I cower away from the door and bump into Audrey.
"Come on, Hun. It's better we leave Cam alone when he's pissed." I nod at her words and she takes me under her arm sighing. She takes me into the kitchen and we sit at the counter. My neck slowly let's my head onto the cool granite.
"So what happened between you two?" She asks. My eyes flick up to her's. I sigh before responding.
"I don't know, at first it was going great. We were getting cereal and then he was talking about us going to school, and then I told him there was no need for him to explain because Jasper already told me. After that he got pissed because he didn't want me talking to Jasper and then, "I look at her and see her still listening "then I kinda told him he wasn't my boyfriend, so he shouldn't talk to me that way."
"Jesus Christ that was a mouthful Imogen." Audrey gently chuckles before saying anything else. "Anyways, I feel like I'm missing something, why do you think Cam doesn't want you talking to Jasper?"
"Oh."
"Oh?"
"So, umm, last night Jasper kinda kissed me and I didn't want to, so he kept trying even though I pushed him away and stuff, and then umm. "I don't know why I feel bad for telling Audrey this. I guess since they're friends, I don't wanna ruin that? "Then uh, Cameron came and ha, uh, saved me I guess you could say." I try laughing along throughout the story and she's looking at me like I'm insane.
