Chapter 3 : Friends Reunite
I sighed and rubbed my eyes. The light blue sky was bright enough for me to see in. Midnight was grazing happily on some grass near by while I was sitting on a fallen tree. I was on top of a hill at the house which was high enough to see the complete bush that surrounded our house. I sighed when I noticed the sun start rising, indicating it was time for me to leave. I sighed before standing from the fallen tree and walking over towards Midnight who was still grazing. I mounted swiftly onto his back, I smiled at the familiar feeling of being with him again before forcing my heels down and cantering back towards the barn.
I kissed Midnight's nose a goodbye before making my way back towards the house leaving my cooled off, fed and groomed horse in the barn. Dad was already awake and working in the barn when I rode Midnight in. He didn't have to ask where I was, he already knew considering I would normally do that before I left. I jogged through the house and made it into my room before jumping into the on-sweet and stripping of my cloths and showering. I washed my hair and body before jumping out and drying my body and hair. I changed into some oversized sweats and a singlet before making my way out of the room and downstairs where mum was in the kitchen.
"Hey Mum" I called to her, taking a seat on the stool opposite the counter.
"Hey Ella" my mum greeted me. I smiled before grabbing an apple and starting to eat it. "What are you doing today?" Mum asked, taking a seat on the stool opposite me and eating a banana.
"I was planning on unpacking in the morning then hitting the shops before school tomorrow" I explained. Just the thought of school made my stomach do a flip.
"Sounds fun. Do you want any help unpacking?" Mum offered. I gave her an appreciative smile and nodded my head quickly.
"Please" I begged. Mum laughed before tossing her banana skin in the bin and following me upstairs towards my room.
"So" mum began as we folded my outfits. "I want to know all about the boys while you were in California" mum continued with a giggled, making me laugh and roll my eyes.
"How did you know there was a boy?" I asked curiously, a small smile on my face.
"You don't look like a model and not have a boyfriend" mum explained with a shrug making me laugh and smile.
"His name was Drake" I began. Mum awed at me causing me to roll my eyes. "We dated for about a year. He was a member of the football team" I explained. "He was roughly 5'11 with sandy blonde hair and green eyes" I explained to mum, finishing my description of him. Mum smiled and nodded her head before saying
"You sound really into him. You miss him?" She asked in a soft voice.
"Of course I miss him, I miss everyone. Although I knew it was time for me to come home." I explained, giving mum a weak smile as I felt the tears brim my eyes at the thought of how much I really left in California.
"Did you love him?" Mum asked, her voice so gentle and soft like she was afraid to brake me.
"No" I answered easily taking mum by surprise. "I cared about him but I knew deep down that I didn't love him. I didn't get the butterflies in my stomach seeing him, I didn't feel weak whenever we kissed. I don't know how to explain it" I told mum with a shrug.
"You cared about him like a friend, not a boyfriend. Which is fine" mum told me, giving me a hug. I gave her a smile and hugged her back. We continued chatting all about Drake and unpacking took less time than I thought.
I glanced at myself in the mirror, I was wearing some black denim short shorts, a white and gold boob tube and a light green see-through blouse matched with black converse. I then applied some mascara, a light amount of foundation to perfect my face and pink lip gloss before making my way down stairs towards the car. I called my farewell through the house, receiving one back from mum before I slipped into the car. I glanced at my reflection, my golden blonde hair was falling freely around my face in soft waves and my black sunglasses sitting on my face. I nodded in approval before turning the car on and driving out of the house while my iPod played songs through the car.
