Kayden gazed at the corpse lying across the freezing concrete floor of the basement, clasping her stone cold, lifeless hand in a seemingly endearing, almost loving manner.

But love was definitely not the feeling fluttering at the pit of her stomach.

Instead, a sick pride, a toxic euphoria that coursed through her veins and encapsulated every living fiber of her being.

The flickering light of the dingy basement cast a dim pool of luminescence over the dusting of filth coating both Kayden and her victim.

Victim.

The word bounced through Kayden's mind like the echo of a delighted, childlike scream in the deepest of mountain caverns; entrances to the soul of Mother Earth yearning to be explored.

Did Sam count as a victim if she genuinely deserved everything that had happened to her?

Kayden cocked her head, her eyes narrowing to focus on the body.

Milky white skin, almost entirely unblemished; save for a thin layer of grime. A slender nose, with a light sprinkling of freckles scattered across it. Thick, luscious auburn curls, extending to her shoulders. To a complete stranger, Sam appeared to be in a casual slumber.

A scowl spread across Kayden's face.

Sam looked peaceful.

Seemingly too peaceful.

Useless bitch, spat a little voice lurking at the back of her skull.

It's like you've accomplished nothing.

You must claim what is yours.

Rebuke what was taken away from you.

You must leave your mark.

She gritted her teeth, attempting to hold on to her final, tattered shred of self control. Red-hot anger bubbled within her, urging her to seek vengeance for what Sam had done to her. A red-hot wave of sizzling adrenaline fluttered through her veins and demanded control over her body.

Kayden jumped to her feet, a strange ringing within her ears. She glared at Sam's body hungrily, her eyes fixated on the ebony skin of her throat.

Go on, whined the little voice once more.

You know you want to.

She lowered herself to the frigid concrete floor, her face mere centimeters away from Sam's.

"You're so beautiful, Samantha." She whispered, stroking the side of the girl's face affectionately.

"If only you could share." Kayden's lips gently brushed over the clammy, damp skin of Sam's neck.

Kayden's eyes lit up as she unsheathed a ten-inch long butcher knife from the front compartment of her dusty backpack. The spotless steel blade gleamed brightly under the flickering beam of the lightbulb.

Her eyes remained fixated on the razor-sharp edge of the blade. Carefully, she positioned the tip of the knife right at the sharp angle of Sam's jawline. She pressed down hard, puncturing the delicate skin. Crimson blood oozed from the inch long incision, shockingly vivid against Sam's porcelain complexion.

Kayden gritted her teeth with concentration, hacking away at the edges of Sam's face. Gingerly, she shoved four of her calloused, dirty fingertips beneath one of the dripping incisions.

Slowly, she peeled off the skin; exposing the raw, sinewy muscle tissue, throbbing blue and red blood vessels, and gleaming ebony bone structure. Sam's large eyes rolled back into her skull, exposing only the bulging whites. The moist, squelching sound of flesh being torn filled the stale air. Soon enough, the freezing concrete was splattered with the bodily fluids of a teenage girl.

The next twenty minutes appeared to shoot by rapidly. Kayden stumbled to her feet and stared at her reflection in the dirty surface of a nearby mirror. Her caramel blond locks were tangled in lumpy snarls, and dried blood encrusted the skin around her mouth and the creases of her hands. Her mouth stung with the metallic taste of human blood.

Kayden glanced at the luminescent display of her digital watch. 12:30, just enough time to lock up and get ready by 5. She kicked Sam's mangled corpse to the side, tossing a clean bedsheet over it. A quick scamper up the basement stairs, the click of a key, and the rushing of water from the shower head were the final sounds to be heard.
