Catching a Trail

We spend all night going through the files and sorting out to make sure everyone understand and knew the same as I did. "So his MO is hanging from the ceiling by his hands with an X on their backs and the number of the kill on their lower backs?" Danny confirms.

"Yeah. What he does the victim can change depending on the mood his in? Like today's was mild. Horrible but mild compared to what he did in New York."

"What does that mean though?" Kono asks.

I lean against the side of the computer table, "I don't know for sure but I have the feeling it's his idea of an opener. His practicing or he just wanted to get the ball rolling."

"That wasn't the point of it." We all look at Steve. "He could have killed this women anywhere but he did it next to the room your staying in."

Danny comes back from a call, "CSU found no evidence of the guy were looking for. No hair, no fingerprints, nothing."

"You won't. His careful. I mean overly careful so we can't catch his identity."

"You've been chasing this guy and you don't even know his name or face." Katherine comments.

"Not entirely. The first time I was on the case, I found my partner Trent's body. The killer was still there. It was dark so I didn't get a good look but as it says in the files his about six foot, dark hair and he has a....." The beach. The arm I saw and the hair.

"Amy?"

"The beach." I turn to Chin. "I did see him. He was at the beach the day we were there. I saw the tattoo on his arm."

"You said you had thought you saw someone." He moves me away before looking to get into the security cameras.

"That's how he knew where I was staying. All he had to do was follow me back and take out the women next door." I shake my head.

"Okay let's see if I can find the guy." Chin types quickly and swipes the CCTV onto the big screen. "Right so it was about six when you saw him." He scans through until about half five and play's from there but at a half fast speed.

"Wait, go back." Danny takes over and runs it back to five minutes before I saw him. His wearing a black cap, sunglasses, a pair of shorts and vest top. His arm is what I recognise. "There. He moves back into the tree, scraping his arm."

"Can we get DNA off that?"

"It's worth a shot."

That's when Steve's phone goes off. "McGarrett." He looks at me. "Okay were on our way." He hangs up.

"Another body?"

"Yeah. This time it was at the Governor's office."

"Alright. We split up. Chin, Kono go see if you can get any DNA off that tree. It's worth a shot." I look at Katherine, "take Katherine with you. Three's a better number than two." They head off. "We head to the crime scene."

Steve drives and we put Danny in the back again. As we drive I think more and more about this case. My heart pounds in my chest as we get closer. My hands begin to sweat and I rub them on my jeans. I can feel Steve's gaze on me every now and then but remain looking out of the window. We have them open so the breeze is relaxing, barely but still cools me down a little.

"Were going to catch this guy. His not get away this time."

"Don't make promises you can't keep. His slipped through so many times."

"He won't get off the Island. We will shut the whole island down if we have to."

"He would find a way."
