Life

Life is not, as the dictionary states, an individual.
It is more, I should think, if life is fair.

Life should be my mother sleeping,
Her chest rising and falling.

Life should be my dad's smile,
And the crinkle around his eyes.

Life should be the way my stepmother's eyes light up,
When she talks to my dad.

Life should be my stepfathers's patience,
Which he seems to have in an unlimited supply.

Life should be my brother's dimples,
Or perhaps his green eyes.

Life should be the way my friend sings-
A sweet, clear soprano.

Life should be the way my teachers encourage us-
We are life, in their eyes.

Life, to me at least,
Should be  the Beatles' singing,
As the wind blows through my hair,
And grinning through icecream stained teeth.

The flavor of life, I decided,
Is mint chocolate chip.

Life shouldn't an absence of death.
Life should be thrill of a roller coaster, or the joy of reading a book.

Life should be history
Preserved by us, in a fragile vase.

Life should be everyone, not an individual excluded.
Life should be where the quality of mercy is not strained.

Life is many things, but life is not fair.
