  (1st chapter of Of Runt)
Attacks in the middle of the night are the worst. My people cherish their sleep because they work hard. Some are still running for their place as I look for my trackers. I randomly pick three.

"You three." I say with my influence of wolf also interrupting my beta. My Beta is standing beside me now. I grab them but not too hard.

"My scouts are already there. Your job is to take a prisoner is that understood? The highest rank you can get. If I do not have at least one prisinor when this is over you all will be punished is that clear?" I ask them. One man looks at me in a daze.

"Yes Alpha," they say. My eyes settle on the girl. A familiar blond. I don't remember where I know her. She looks young, too young to be here.

"Is she even of age?" I ask Garret, my beta. I swear I see her eyes flash with anger.

"She is seventeen," he says looking at me then her. I look over her one time before grunting my approval.

Our eyes lock before I talk. "Don't fail."

I'm not sure why I said it but it just felt natural. Like something I had to say. I shift and run to the fight. Most of the fight I don't really watch what I'm doing until a long sorrow filled howl fills the air. I echo the call in respect.

A vampire has one of my pack members pinned up against him drinking her blood. Anger boils in me. No one hurts my pack. "This is a war Archer. This is only the start now let my son finish his meal," the vampire lord says with a smile.

"Never." My fellow pack member says as I command her to do. The vampire grabs her chin and shoulder. I feel the anger build up in me but her body seems to have slight twitches here and there. The vampires grip tightens on her in a very harsh way. I ignore the father while trying to control my anger. Amazingly she shifts and attacks the vampire holding her captive by digging in his chest and rip his arm off.

She am tackled down by more and starts going in overdrive, killing them. She stumbles some so I instantly stand next to her letting her lean on me. Her wolf is so tiny and fragile looking, she is so little compared to me. She looks up to me in surprise. I feel pride surge through me. This determined little wolf is in my pack. The vampires retreat taking the severely injured vampire with them.

Another wolf slowly walks up to her and She meets him. He rubs his face against her neck nuzzling her. She almost instantly nuzzles him back. He must be a family member.

I rip my eyes off the two before looking for my Beta. He instantly starts to feed me reports of what has been lost. I need to thank my fellow pack member. She went above and beyond of what was expected. I glance back to where she was only to find them both gone. I shifted back into my human form some time ago which feels kinda good.

I go in the direction of the pack house and not to long after I see several wolves with one little wolf. "Wait!" I say more commanding then I meant. Walking to her I watch her and tilt my head a little. She's smaller then I realized.

"She needs special care. I believe he had wolfsbane on his fangs. Her energy is about to die out from the forced shift. You need to bring her to the packhouse," I explain looking at the biggest one. My beta informed me of this earlier.

"Thank you, Alpha. I'm sure Reagan appreciates your help," Another says as he shifts. He's well built and very confident in himself.

The wolf, Reagan, jumps and tackles a lingering rouge. The rouge slings her into a tree very harshly.

Two other wolves grab the rouge imprisoning it. Another female wolf goes to Reagan and whines. These must be her siblings taking care of her, the Runt. "Reagan," one of the boys say running to her. He goes to lift her up but she whines. He stumbles back, looking away in despair. "She won't make it. She thinks she's punctured a lung," he says before falling down. The female wolf crawls to him, hiding her face.

I shift with a determination in mind. She saved me twice, I have to save her. I grab her by the scruff of her neck like a little puppy. That's what she looks like compared to me. I run as fast as I can. This little runt cannot die.

I lay her down so I can pick her up as a human. "We need a doctor!" I shout desperately.

"All of them are being used. Many people were hurt," my Gamma, Henry, explains.

"She saved me," I growl out. Many people take a few steps back due to my shaking anger.

"Reagan! Oh Reagan!" Someone shouts. "I can help her what's wrong oh my god!"

"Punctured lung. "

"I cannot help her! " I think this is Michelle. "We need help! She is about to die! Help us!"

"Over here!" Someone shouts and I take off moving again. Her eyes fall close then while I lay her down.

"She was thrown against and tree and bitten by a vampire. " I say quickly.  Im slightly out of breath.

"Don't close your eyes. Look at our Alpha and shift so he knows who saved him," the doctor orders. Her head slowly rolls to the side as She shift. I can tell it is very painful and makes her scream. I put a blanket is over her. Her eyes start to close.

"Don't close your eyes little wolf. Look at Alpha Archer, " the doctor says. My dark brown pair meet stunning grey eyes. Her breathing is ragged. She coughs and blood flies from her mouth.

"Is that blood?" Gamma Henry asks. Anger and worry settle in my stomach. Is this loyal warrior going to die for me? Why? What have I done for her?

"Hey, don't close your eyes. That's an order." I say with a nervous chuckle. Her dirty blond hair has dirt and blood caked in it. Her chest heaves for air. She would be a very stunning lady.  She is studying my face like it will be the last thing she'll see, it maybe. They start to cut her open making her scream very loudly.  The scream makes her cough painfully.

"She has internal bleeding." The doctor says. Her chest heaves heavily.

"That's bad."

"We are losing a pulse. She's going to die. I'm sorry Alpha she's lost a lot of blood all we can do is make the end faster. "

"We need more doctors!" Mitchell shouts angered.

"Move her inside." I says grabbing a side of the gurney.

Hurry!"

"Blood type?" The doctor shouts. Our blood supply is probably low now. Panic is fully settled in me.

"O negative. Its O negative. " Mitchell says quickly. Her eyes shuts and won't open.

"We don't have anymore O negative," he says.

"But if it's not that blood type you risk failure of com-"

"Take mine!" I shout thrusting my arm at him.

"Alpha-"

"Do it now. We don't have time to waste.," I order him. He grabs the blood transfer kit and slides the needle in my skin. What am I doing?

I'm saving her.
