Drowning in a Sea of insecurity, hatred, darkness, and chains. That's where I might be right now if I didn't have you to claim as mine. Following in your giant footsteps as a little child, will build me up to become strong. I know what to look out for; I know what to do when I'm out in the world alone. Nothing's going to be new. Your hug is what gives me strength to keep going another day. Kisses on the cheek is what keeps me from crushing this world down. Hear the words "I love you" every now and then, Daddy. When I look at you I see a reflection of God. No, you are no Angel. But who said you had to be to be a reflection? The spirit who told you to take it upon yourself and have a child. To give me warmth and love whenever I need it. To stick around for a while so I won't feel cold and empty inside. Like a cuddly bear, I can hug you so tight. My strength is nothing compared to yours. And the little child that you all once knew had a hard time with trying to make things a new. Never knew what it meant to be free. But that child is gone, she is now the girl that stands before you. I couldn't have done it without the number one man in my life. Daddy. Strong, determined, hopeful, smart, a lover and a fighter. A lions heart is what you have, prideful, yet, kind at the same time. A man of wisdom that shows me the way to the right path. But this poem can't last. Take this as an apology for any pain that I might have caused unconsciously. I just wanted to say thank you for sticking with crazy me. And I hope to make you proud in the future to come.
