One day, coming from her house after a tutoring session, I hadn't realized one of my friends lived so close to her. Seeing him walking toward me and greeting me yards away put me into a subtle panic.

"Ayyyee!! Isaiah, dude! Coming from that little geek's house I see! You smashin'? Damn I didn't know you were that desperate for some..." He yells to me rather loudly.

"Nah man, that dork? Ha! I just needed answers to my homework dude! I'm failing math right now, I gotta get my shit together." I tell him. I hadn't necessarily lied to him. I did need help on my homework and I was failing math. But that's not the only reason I wanted to see her. I always want to see her, I can never get tired of just staring at her all day long which doesn't help at all with me paying attention to her actually explaining math equations to me. But I could never tell anyone else that because of what it would do to my reputation in school. No matter how cool I know she is, no one else will ever take the time to recognize that. They all look at her as an uncool geek and if I associate with that, they will look at me the exact same way and I can't afford that especially in my last two years of high school. That's why it's best to just keep this relationship very low and furtive.

"Oh shit well you do you man, take care of your business! Haha I'm gonna go now, I'm getting ready to break ankles at the court. Wanna come?" He bounces his basketball through his legs and to his other hand.

"Aw that sounds tempting Ricardo, but it's getting a little late and my mom wants me to clean the house." I reply. I didn't actually have anything to do at home, I just really didn't want to see my friends today. I was already feeling a little fidgety and worried Ricardo had caught on to Rosaline and me. Going home and sleeping sounds like the best option right now.
