"Blackkit?Blackkit? Wake up?" Nightfall, her adopted mother nudged her awake. "What is it?" Blackkit tiredly asked. "It's time for your apprentice ceremony." Nightfall told her. " Let all those cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the great pine for a clan meeting." Silverstar announced. Blackkit sprang to her feet and raced to the great pine. Nightfall followed her. "It is time Shadowclan named a new apprentice. Blackkit please come here." Silverstar said. Blackkit walked up to her. "You have reached 6 moons and are ready to become an apprentice. Do you promise to protect your clan and follow the warrior code, even at the cost of your life?" Silverstar asked. "I do." Blackkit joyfully replied. " Then from this day on until you have earned your warrior name, you shall be called Blackpaw. Crowwing, you have experienced loss and bravery. You will pass down your skills to Blackpaw on her way to becoming a warrior. Blackpaw, I welcome you as an apprentice of Shadowclan." Silverstar finished. Blackkit and Crowwing touched noses. "Blackpaw! Blackpaw! Blackpaw!" The clan chanted. Blackpaw thought about her mother. She had died in battle protecting her long ago. Blackkit wondered if she was proud of her. And if she was watching over her in starclan. Then Blackpaw padded away to sit her vigil by her mother's grave,gazing at the stars.
