"I thought you were leaving next week?" Mum asks, furrowing her eyebrows looking between the two of us.

"Well I was, but I couldn't wait to see Malakai so it was decided that I'd be staying with him from now on," I give her a fake smile. Please notice. Please notice. Please notice that this is a fake smile, please notice that I need help, please notice that I don't want to go with him, please help me!

But she doesn't, she smiles at dad and he nods. "Take good care of her, I'll find out if you aren't taking her of her," he growls in warning. He already isn't taking good care of me.

Malakai nods stiffly, "of course." I hug my parents tightly, trying not to cry. Then I hug Zachariah, his arms are tight around me in a protective brotherly manner. I give Bryn a wobbly smile and hug her as well, then I mutter a goodbye and an I love you.

After saying goodbye to my family, we drove back to Malakai's coven. I will no longer let him treat me like crap, I will be a strong and independent woman. "Talk to me," he growls at me, he grasps my chin in between his thumb and index finger.

I turn my face away from him in defiance, in a matter of seconds his body is flying toward the door and he's taking deep breaths to calm himself. I guess he isn't used to people defying him like I have. And he doesn't appreciate his mate doing that.

"You are looking for trouble, aren't you Lena?" He growls through clenched teeth. Giving him a look of disbelief, I shake my head scoffing at him.

"You are the one that caused this, don't forget that Malakai," I speak up with a glare. "How could you do that? KILL YOUR OWN COVEN MEMBERS! You are disgusting, I'm disgusted with you. You bring me so much pain," I hiss; my father told me that whenever mum cried because of him, he felt an indescribable amount of pain. So maybe Malakai will too?

"Don't say that!" He roars, outraged. I take a step forward, he slides across the wall to get away from me. "Don't come near me.... I may hurt you," he whispers.

"The king of darkness, aye? You may not feel anything, you may not try to feel anything and you may have a choice if you want to feel or not. But I don't! I feel and it hurts. Ever since I was deemed a weak human, everyone has been on my back about it! I have been strong and I haven't showed them that they got to me and I'm not about to let you treat me this way. I am human, I have to feel. But you took the easy way out of it. You think I haven't heard? You turned off your humanity a long time ago, you 'felt' too much! But I've never gotten that option, Malakai. Your humanity isn't on at this very moment, so you wouldn't feel this. You wouldn't feel pain if I'm in pain. You wouldn't feel mercy, you would feel nothing. And that's what you are, nothing; an empty shell filled with darkness."

I'm breathing heavily by the end of my rant, he looks at me emotionlessly and I shake my head. I was never one to believe rumours, so when I heard the rumours about Malakai I didn't think that they would be true. But they are. He stays silent, unmoving like a tree. "Unpack your things," he orders then walks away, he's only walking away from the truth; which he cannot handle otherwise he would've owned up to it.

People call me weak, but really.... they're the weak ones. I have felt more pain than they have, they have choices whether they want to feel or not. They can be an empty shell, void of any emotions. With a growl, I storm out of the house that I can't stand to be in. It reeks of Malakai, everything here does. Maybe to get my mind off everything, I'll look around his coven. Looking at everyone, I realise something; they don't want to be here. They are all driven by fear, they fear their leader. If they show emotion then their leader will deem them as weak and they can't have that. No one here is happy.

But I need to change that, with or without Malakai. Because he doesn't only have dozens of enemies, but his mate is now an enemy to him. The area is normal, dark oak trees surrounding the area, small wooden houses- big enough for a family. Green grass with water fountains, a dam that people are swimming in, playgrounds and a never ending pit of darkness. Darkness driven by the mad man, Malakai Reed.

People bow as I walk past then they scramble away, but why? I'm just a weak human to them after all. A guy stops in front of me and cocks his head to the side, "you're Malakai Reed's mate, right?" He asks lowly, I nod slowly and suspiciously.

"That's me," I mutter dryly, he takes a step forward and a smirk appears at the edge of his lips. "I suggest that you keep your distance," I warn him, he stops for a second but then proceeds to walk closer. Before I can run away, he lunges at me and grasps my wrist in his large cold hand.

His nose sniffs my neck, which is considered rude if they aren't your mate. If your mate smells another male on you, very rash things can happen: Malakai will most likely kill him or me, what's the difference? His grip gets tighter on my wrist and he groans, "human." The word escapes his lips in a breathless murmur, I struggle in his hold. He's going to eat me! Well drink me.

"Let go of me!" I screech, I thrust my knee upwards and swiftly knee him in the baby maker. He deserved it though, he groans releasing me; I take this to my advantage and run away as fast as I can, it appears that they recover quicker to a kick in the balls than humans. Because I'm being tackled to the ground and not in a playful way that Zachariah does to me. His teeth graze my neck, at this moment I can tell he is a vampire that can't help himself when it comes to human blood. Just a sniff is like cocaine to him.

His teeth puncture through my neck and I release a blood curling scream of pain. I can't breath. The air isn't coming into me, he is squeezing me, he isn't stopping his torture. I feel the darkness coming to me, but before I see nothing but black he is ripped from my body. I wheeze and watch as Malakai rips his heart out of his chest then drops it to the ground, he crouched down next to me and cuts his skin, bringing it to my lips. I grab his wrist and drink the blood that is his, mates also find it disrespectful when you feed on another persons blood whom isn't your mate.

Malakai brings his hand away, finally I can breathe. Basically, their blood heals you. "What the hell Lena?! You should've told me you were going out, you could have been killed.... I...I wouldn't know what to do if I hadn't came," he panics grabbing my waist and lifting me up, he pulls me towards him- covering his scent over that mans, it wraps over me in blankets until all I can smell is him.

"I'm fine, thanks for asking," I mumble, he doesn't say anything. Eventually he releases me, I shake my head and walk away to his house. Because all I am is a human that cannot protect herself, all I want to do is to be able to without anyone having to come and rescue me. For once I want to be known as brave and strong. Just once...
