"Garnet? Are you okay?" Pearl pounded against the door aggressively. Why is she avoiding me? Did I do something that aggravated her? Inquisitions of self doubt swirled around in her mind as she let her fist unclench and slump against her leg. After a minute more of sulking by the doorway, she heard it slide open. She tentatively brushed a few stray strands of hair off her forehead in the anticipation of seeing her lover. "Hello, Pearl." The voice was monotonic and revealed no emotion. She peered downwards. Two smaller gems had taken the place of where Garnet should've been standing. "Where's Garnet?" She asked with concern knitted into her thin eyebrows. "That's a nice way to greet someone." Ruby glared and crossed her arms. "Not now, Ruby. We have more important matters to discuss." Sapphire lay a soothing hand on her shoulder. Pearl opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by Sapphire's voice. "I know you're about to ask why Garnet split up. To give you a brief explanation, She was already having difficulties with dissatisfaction on behalf of your unpreparedness for sexual activity. On top of her high levels of previous stress, me and Ruby got into a small tiff over whether or not we should interfere with her future decisions. Eventually all of the conflict just boiled over the edge and Garnet came undone." Pearl's cheeks flushed as she averted her eyes. "H-how long do you think this separation will last?" Ruby glanced at Sapphire as if to say: should we tell her? She nodded in response to the silent question and continued to speak. "We were thinking that we should wait until all of this drama dies down."
"What do you mean by that?" Pearl's voice seemed to raise an octave. "In case you were unaware; your relationship with Garnet has caused a sudden uproar of commotion among teammates. My future visions have concluded that these occurrences would've only escalated if immediate action was not taken. The disturbances that were previously circulating could've easily weakened and distracted the entire team. You know that none of us can afford to lose concentration in times like this. Even though love is an important aspect on this planet, we have to remember that its safety is more important. This is why me and Ruby think that we shouldn't fuse again until your feelings towards Garnet have.. faded." Sapphire's facial expression still appeared calm and collected despite the grim statement she had announced. Pearl could feel her airways tightening as alarm settled into the atmosphere. "But what about the team? Garnet is practically our leader. It's unfair of you to take that away from us!" Her anger rose steadily with each word she spoke. Ruby gritted her teeth and stepped in front of sapphire protectively. "You just want to have your girlfriend back! You don't care about what the team needs! I can see right through you, Pearl." She growled. "That's enough, Ruby. I apologize for her immaturity. You need to know that yourself, Amethyst, and Steven have more power than you realize. The Crystal Gems can survive without Garnet for a while." Pearl felt her gut clench in protest. "I'm not as shallow as you assume I am. If you think that I'm going to give up my love for Garnet within a matter of weeks, or even months, then you need to be prepared to think again." Ruby leaned over and whispered audibly in Sapphire's ear. "I hope that she realizes her and Garnet have only been in a relationship for one day."What have I gotten myself into?
