What exactly has happened since the Era of War began?
Well.

The onslaught of the darkness that shrouded the Centric realm was now interfering with the realms beyond the portals. It was much more covert than the very literal blanketing in the former magical unification, but its effects were no less detrimental.

As previously clarified, the Angels now had a much more cruel magic at their command. The authorities grew rather fond of it as it provided a tool to wage a war against - guess who - the Fairies. They did catch wind of Kestriel's obscure dalliances with Lubnov and quickly pointed their suspicious fingers at the entire Fairy realm in blaming her for the Revolt.
They couldn't spare a rebellion among the general public of Angels. Before any real action on Angelic behalf, the government had to find a way to permanently neutralise the threat of insurgence.
And so they turned to what they knew about magic. They had quite a wealth of information that the BODS used to share with them out of respect, so on studying this they found a way to establish psychic links and weaken another's sensitivity to other telepathic links. They thought it could be useful, so they began to prepare to use it at once.
But they overlooked one fact; their magic was less predictable and more powerful now, and so additional caution must be taken so adverse effects wouldn't take place. They didn't care for this additional caution.
Scaltiel, one of the Angels closest to BODS, decided to head the operation himself. He originally only wanted to establish this telepathic connection in preparation for another of a greater degree later on. He went through his usual methods for carrying out telepathy as well as being assisted by the rest of the Angelic Council to to carry this out on such a wide scale.
And when he initiated the simple deed, things went awry.
He ended up clutching the minds of every single Angel he targeted, erasing nearly all their memories and mental processes like empathy and interpretation. The effect was greater than anything the Council could have delved from their bestowed BODS documents, but the added kick of their evolved magic was less than merciful to Scaltiel. Since the magic he used was unstable, he was paralysed as a side effect of his telepathy. Serves him right, if I'm honest, but the Angels still used this to their advantage.
They found he was still conscious under the layers of paralysis. They started telling him to use his permanent mental link to persuade the Angels to do different things, and in the end, they got him to brainwash them and force them to act in a cold, military fashion.
A common misconception is that the Angels have no thoughts of their own; they do, but Scaltiel's perversion let's him into them all, and if they start formulating opinions of their own that he finds too controversial, he'll ease them away from the thought and back to business.
And that's how the Angels now live, with only little concern and utmost intervention given to their people.

A few weeks passed of heavy preparation for Angels to finally war with the entire Fairy realm. Temples became factories, streets became patrolling territory and open spaces became arenas for Angels to 'practice' against each other.
The Angels were ready as ever now. They wanted to barge right in to the demolished Centric realm and lay siege right on to the Fairies.
Not a great idea. Their portal as well as the ones between the other realms were very much volatile and unsafe to go through. But Scaltiel had their backs.
Despite nearly all his telepathic effort being on civilian Angels, he knew the Council were looking for a way to soften the portal for transport, so he aimed his last ounces of effort to another Council Angel, relaying the message that the BODS documents held the answer to their problem. Immediately the Angels rummaged through the scrolls, parchments and books to find it, and soon enough they did. Under an article outlining the differences between Divine magic and that of the portals, he'd written a footnote saying it's probable that despite their magic being contrasted, if magic were to be influenced by the darkness of these portals, the magics would very well be compatible.
And now this kind of magic existed.
They knew what to do next; they headed straight for the erratic gateway and sent a great, dense ray of their collective energy at the portal, forcing it to open and allow them through. It was very much a taxing process.
But they'd done it. The portal was functional again.

Beyond lay a realm they'd never known.
The wondrous Centric realm was far from any kind of haven, it can only now be described as a void, a cold empty space between realms with no purpose nor happiness.
And in plain sight lay the two remaining portals.
Two.
One would lead to the Fairies, yes, but the other, to the Unicorns. Which one went where? Well.
They chose one at random and guess where it led!

The Angelic Council rampaged across any land beyond the portal, much to the confusion of the Unicorns.
The King and Queen were already stressed at having seen the Heart destroyed as well as finding the gemstone missing, so when the Angels wreaked havoc on their land they were all in complete disarray.
The King stepped up among the hubbub and challenged the intruders. Just as the Angels approached them, the King stood defying the Angels' invasion, halting their progress and the mayhem among his people.
After a questionably long silence, he drew power to his horn, making it shine a sickly peach hue, and then he shot a powerful ray at the one leading the procession, Flaxiel. The impact knocked him down from his strong stature, which sparked some inspiration in the other Unicorns to do the same. Beams of raw power in nearly every colour cascaded onto the Angels and Flaxiel called for them all to retreat.
After they fled through the portal, the King was enraged; he was always suspicious that the Angels thought lowly of them and this confirmed it. He promptly started to train willing Unicorns for the War the Angels had involved them in.

A similar story went down with the Fairies. The Angels broke through but, due to underestimation and lack of preparation, had to retreat, this time to their home realm. The Fairies were naturally left enraged, but not only by the act of infiltration, but the motives behind it.
The Angels unjustly waged war on a crazy assumption: the assumption that they were responsible for Lubnov.
Let me be clear, the Fairies were as uneasy about Lubnov as the Angels were, but they were not half as prejudiced as to blame the entire Angel race for the act of one.
And how closed-minded to think Lubnov did what she did for Kestriel out of carelessness! She loved the darned conman! They were even completely certain she'd taken her own life after that...
The Fairies were sickened to their bones by mister Flaxiel here and retaliated forthwith.
And somehow, all three warring parties simultaneously arrived in the void-drenched Centric realm.
Flaxiel had a troop of Angels behind him.
A band of snarling, near-rabid Fairies crowded through their portal.
The King was surrounded by well-trained Unicorns with a fire of anger in their eyes.
Henceforth, the realm was named the Warzone.

And so the Blessed War commenced.
It poisoned the hearts and minds of all Divine beings once and for all.

Except the BODS.
