Amalia
I woke up, finding myself strapped to a chair.
That freaked me out a bit.
I tested to see how tightly I was bound, and it was loose.
I started to work at the ropes that bound my hands. They hadn't tied it very well. Whoever 'they' were. While doing so, I tried to take in my surroundings. It was dark, so it was hard to make out. The only thing I make out was the door in front of me, and a table or bench somewhere of to the right.
Before I could undo my bonds, I heard someone outside. I feigned sleep, just in time too. The door opened, and someone, a man, with a huskey voice turned on the light, came in and said
"Mate, you need to lay off the knockout stuff a bit."
Another voice, lighter, said
"It's called chloroform, mate, and don't call me that. Were you able to find someone else who wanted to do this job?"
Silence.
"That's what I thought. And she's clearly feigning you idiot. And unless she wants an ice cold bucket of water dumped on her head, then a scalding one, I suggest that she stops this nonsense right now."
The last part was directed at me. I slowly raisedy head, and looked at both of the men in front of me.
One was a man with dark skin. He was a tall man, bald, with what looked like pure black eyes.
The other man, he was a pale, gangly man. With red hair, freckles, and blue eyes. He looked familiar. From somewhere. I can't recall where though. The taller one spoke.
"Where is she?"
It wasn't a question. It was more of a demand. Which to I replied
"Where is who?"
"Don't play games with us girl." He said dangerously. He leaned in.
"You know who I am talking about. Who we are looking for. I know that you know who I'm talking about. So start talking. So where is Amalia, Wren?" He said the last part soft, but threateningly.I sighed. " I really have no idea who you're talking about. I don't even know who you even are, for that matter!" I didn't tell them that my name was Amalia.
He balked. Looked a bit skeptical, then leaned back and conferred with his 'friend'. I decided to call the shorter one Mike, and the other Ike. Stupid, but temporary.
I stopped thinking and listened in other their conversation.
"...date?"
"It the 22 of September"
The tall one, if possible, went pale.
"Oh god. That's bad. Really bad."
What's bad. I wondered. As if hearing my thoughts, I heard the shorter say,
"What's bad?"
"Remember what the head told us?"
"Yeah, why?"
"He said it would happen on the 22 if we didn't hurry up! This always happens between......"
I couldn't hear the rest.
"Shutup! Keep it down. She's supposed to have lost her memory then? Plus swapping bodies with the other one. Right? We could use this to our advantage. Although I still think that's a stupid, superstitious myth."
Lost my memory?
They started to walk back over. I'd ended up with my hair in my face.
My... Long strawberry blonde hair.
Wait, wait wait wait a minute. My hair is supposed to be black. Shoulder length. Not strawberry blonde. What the hell is going in here. I must have a confused look in my eyes, because I heard one of them say
"Eavesdropping? That's not very ladylike. I believe you are curious about what's going on. Aren't you? Too bad though. Cuz I ain't gonna tell you."
They both looked at me.
"So you must be Amalia then." Said Ike.
I must've looked surprised, because he nodded.
"Not a myth then." He said smugly to his friend.
"Oh shut up." Mike mumbled.
"Don't go anywhere, Amalia, we'll be right back."
He will winked and sniggered at his own little 'joke'
Mike just looked at him with a mixture of disbelief and disgust. So an 'I can't believe you just did that' look.
"Come on, let's go." Ike said.
And without a word, they turned around, went out the door and locked it. Damn.I worked in the ropes for a bit longer, and smiled when I successfully undid my bonds. I stood up, explored the room and looked for an escape route. I noticed a small window up on the back wall. I went back to the chair, half carried, half dragged it to the window, stood on the chair and opened the window.
I looked out, and, thankfully, saw trees. Something to hide behind. The window looked a bit small for me, but, not taking any chances, I hauled myself up. I panicked for a second, almost getting stuck, but I made it through. I looked down, the ground wasn't far enough away to break something. I twisted myself around somehow, hung from the ledge, and dropped.
I broke my fall by rolling, used my momentum to start a run. I went straight for the trees and didn't look back.
I was free. For now**************
