Hank Voight was the only person that knew about Erin's secret. He was like a father to her, so, it was hard to keep something like this a secret from him, plus, he was the one who helped change her life back when she was a mess, doing drugs and whatnot, now here he was again, coming to her rescue.Hank provided Erin a job with Intelligence. Not only did he want her on the team because he trusted her and needed her skills, he did it so she could help support her daughter.
Yes, her daughter. That was her big secret. Her daughter's name was Aurora, and now was five years old. She was two when Hank asked her to join his team. He has helped keep Aurora a secret and has even provided Erin with care for her daughter as she works.
Aurora's father was a subject that Erin didn't really care to talk about. It was quite a touchy subject for her, actually. Her daughter has yet to ask about him, so she continues to not mention him. Even Hank doesn't know anything about the guy.
It was amazing to how Erin was able to keep her daughter a secret. She even managed to keep it a secret from a guy she dated briefly. Though most guys didn't mind, she always wondered if it bothered this one, by her having a rule of no one coming into her apartment.
It was terrible that she was keeping her daughter a secret, but it was mostly because of the job. She didn't want Aurora to be used against her. Yes, she could still tell her team and everything be okay, but she wasn't taking any chances.
Her daughter was her whole life. If anything were to happen to her, it would kill Erin. Protecting her daughter was her number one priority. Her job was second. No matter what, she'd always put her daughter first. Even if she were to get into a relationship, her daughter would be her first priority.
That was probably why she found it hard to tell guys about her daughter. Not all men were comfortable with kids, some didn't ever want any, or they weren't ready for it yet. It was becoming hard for her to find someone who loved kids and was ready for them. She was okay if she never found love, she had her daughter, though something was missing from her life, she'd be okay with being a single mom for the rest of her life.
Jay Halstead was her partner at work. He could be irritating at times, she did find him to be rather handsome, though, she'd never tell him that. It'd just boost his ego way too much. Erin also liked how blue his eyes were, and loved his smile. She hid that from him. She even tried not to flirt back with him whenever he'd flirt with her.
She tried to keep it professional. Mostly, because of Aurora, but also because Voight would not approve. As much as she'd rather rebel and do whatever she wants, Hank has done a lot for her, he's doing a lot for her, she didn't want to go against something he wouldn't want. Plus, why would Jay be interested in her for? He had plenty of options, and she probably wasn't even the type he'd go for.
Pushing those thoughts aside, Erin focused on her daughter and her job. In her mind, she didn't have time for a relationship. It didn't mean that she didn't think about it. She longed for one, but knew it just wasn't possible at this time. One day, it'd happen, and she'd be ready.
Author's Note; I don't know where I got the idea from, but I'd like to do story like this. This chapter is rough, I feel, but it's a starter to hopefully a good story. I just wanted another story to work on whenever I want a break from 'I Need You'. More to come soon :)
