I stood in the doorway to my room, blocking my little sister in. "Give them back Lizzy," I demanded.
"It's Elizabeth," she huffed, tossing her naturally blonde hair. "And no, I won't, Danny. Something this nice belongs to someone with class," she sneered, admiring the platinum bracelets on her wrist.
"Which is why father gave them to me,for my birthday," I told her through my teeth. I might be just a weak little human, but I wasn't a doormat.
"He's not your father," she scoffed, putting a flawlessly tanned hand on her narrow mini skirt clad hip. "You're real parents' knew you were worthless and left you in the woods to die.You shouldn't be alive, let alone in the Alpha's home." Lizzy held the bracelets up to show them to me. "As his real daughter, I deserve these."
"You don't deserve someone's birthday present," I argued. She was always doing this kind of thing, thinking she could take whatever she wanted because she was the Alpha's daughter.
She laughed at me. "Please. He was just trying to make you feel special, because he knows you're not. You know it too...." She teased.
"Shut up!" I screamed, not wanting to hear my own fears out loud.
She looked me up and down in disgust, then smiled wickedly. "That's why you dress the way you do, isn't it?" I stood silently glaring, unable to deny it. "An ugly hat to cover up that freaky slut red hair, baggy paint splotched shirt, men's baggy pants to hide those fat thighs." She giggled wiping a tear from her eye in glee."You're pathetic. I honestly don't know what Mika sees in you.
I was shaking with shame and hurt. I knew I was no prize to look at, but I worked hard to pay back the kindness given me. Selling my paintings had padded the pack account nicely, and pleased father. "It doesn't matter what you think. Those are mine. Give them back, now!"
She put her finger to her lips like she was thinking about it. "Um-mm....No! These should be worn by a real woman."
I smiled to myself. Finally, a button I could press on the fifteen year old. "A real woman," I smirked. "Doesn't that require breasts?" I asked, knowing it was the one thing I had that she wanted.
She turned red, and I braced myself for her outburst. "I'll kill you!" She screamed, lunging for me.
I was ready, dodging out of the way so she flew past me and into a large, muscular chest. At first I thought it was father. He and Mika look so alike, it took me a moment to realize it was my savior come to make things worse. I should have known right away based on the basketball shorts. He grabbed her upper arms, smiling that carefree smile that was Mika. His large tan hands held her in place easily as she struggled to pull away. "I thought I heard my name," he said cheerfully. "What's got your dander up now, little sister?" He was asking Lizzy, so I remained silent, hoping to stay invisible.
She fumed, huffing and puffing. "That....That cow, insulted me!" Lizzy declared.
His easy smile turned to a stone glare, and his grip tightened on the arm with my bracelets. "I believe I've warned you about lying, and you know I heard you."Lizzy was whimpering in pain and jerking her shoulder in a vain attempt to get her arm free. "Now, one more time. What is going on in here?" He asked through gritted teeth. Inwardly I agonized over the scene before me, knowing that it was my fault.
"Go to hell!" She spat, tugging with her whole body and squirming against his hold. It was no use, but she tried.
Faster than I could blink, he spun her around and pinned one of her hands behind her back, pushing up until she was on her toes whining. He shook the other wrist, forcing the bracelets to fall of and clang to the floor. It sounded loud to me against the noise of Lizzy's quiet struggle. "When are you going to learn your place?" He asked when he was done. The venom in his tone could not be missed. They had a fight similar to this at least once a week, and it always came to a stale mate. Dad wouldn't let her hurt me, just like he wouldn't let Mika hurt her.
