Chapter 7

I sat in the study, biting my nails, waiting for Mika to call. I didn't know what he was going to say, but I knew he was mad. I was worried about how he would feel about my animal form. Hell, I didn't even know what I was when I shifted. I shrugged. Mika would be more concerned with why the hell Xander had replaced his mark. I looked around and everyone was watching me. They've been doing that since we got inside. “What?” I finally snap.

“I just can't believe it,” Liam says, smiling.

I groan. That's all he's been saying for the last five minutes. “Well, believe it!” I drop my face into my hands. “Ugh, how could this happen to me?”

I ignore Cook's giggles. My head snaps up when the phone rings. I stare at it, terrified to pick it up. I take a deep breath and grab it, slowly bringing it to me ear. “Now!” I hear Mika yell.

“Hello?” I squeak.

“Danielle!” Mika shouts.

“I'm here Mika,” I barely whisper.

“What happened?!” He roars into my ear.

I took a deep breath, ready to give the practiced the speech I had decided on. To keep anyone from being killed, although I kind of think Xander deserves it, I have to make him believe me. “Xander and I got into a disagreement, and he lost control. It was an honest mistake.” I wanted to say it calmly, but it rushed out and I'm not even sure he understood me. I hold my breath as the silence goes on for far too long. My heart is pounding so hard I can feel it through my whole body. “Baby? Say something...” I beg.

“He marked you Danielle! That is not a simple misunderstanding!”

I pull the phone away, certain he's busted my eardrum. “You can mark his away, can't you?” I ask, hoping the knowledge that I want him to will calm him down.

Silence. “I think so....” he growls. “Uncle Dave is looking into it. It would help if we knew what you were....”

I look to the guys, quietly asking. “Well...Funny you should say that...” I mumble, not sure what to tell him. “After....that.....yeah....I-I k-kind of s-s-sh-shifted,” I stutter.

“You what?!” He roars again. I hold my breath, waiting for the rest. “Tell me now,” he growls. I'm shaking. It's the deadly teddy bear again.

“I-I, uh. Well, I....I uh don't n-know.”

“What do you mean you don't know?” His velvety voice asks. I whimper, pulling the phone away. Oh, this is so bad!

“I-I- I don't know. All I s-saw wa-s b-black f-f-f-furry p-paws.”

“But you don't know?” His voice was sickly sweet. I cringed. “If you don't stop lying to me this instant I am going to fucking lose it Danielle!” I involuntarily squeal in fear, jumping and falling off of the desk, landing on my ass.

I ignore the growl behind me, and the tear that escapes my eye. “Mika, th-there was n-no mirror. I-”

the phone is jerked from my hand. I look up to see Alex holding the phone. “I told you Mr. Cooper, she ran off before she could see...” His voice even and smooth. He frowns into the phone when there is more yelling. “Yes......And once you calm down, we will be more than happy to have you.” I watch Xander march out of the room. “No, that would be bad,” Alex says. He raises an eyebrow at a few more colorful phrases from Mika that even I can hear from the floor. “Perhaps we should speak with the Alpha.” He frowns, leaning forward. “Xander get off the damn line!.......Now!” All of this is so out of line. “I don't think it has to come to that...” Alex begins.
