Maui's POV:

I flew over the sea, on my way to Montinui. The ocean had told me I needed to visit Moana right away, that something was wrong. Somehow I could feel it too, just before the ocean said that something was up, it was like the feeling shifted, and I got some type of sinking feeling in my heart. So now here I was, speeding across the sea and trying to get to Moana.

We've been friends for about ten years now, I think. Ever since she turned twenty, I've gotten these... Weird feelings in my gut though. Her laugh lifts my heart no matter what, I blush whenever she compliments me, and whenever I'm around her, I just get this, swarming feeling in my belly, and I'm always one to trust their gut, especially hungry. Which is why I didn't question the ocean, my gut told me something was wrong, and I went with it.

Even little Maui felt something wrong, and was just as worried as I was. Finally her island came into view, and I immediately turned into a fish to swim the rest of the way so the ocean could help get me there faster. I was on the shore in no time, and shapeshifted into a lion to run faster. I made it to her village where I shapeshifted human. I was immediately noticed by everyone, who started whispering about me.

I looked at the person closest to me. "Where can I find Moana?" I asked, they lifted a shaky finger to the healing tent. Oh no... Fear rushed through my veins as I ran into the tent, and immediately I saw Moana's Mom and Dad leaning down on a pale looking Moana, who looked like she was on her death bed. They immediately looked to me, there eyes were full of sorrow and pain. "M-Moana?" I whispered.

I walked over to where she was, her breathing was heavy. "Wh...What happened? I was gone for a week.." I asked. "S-She caught an illness... We still don't know how, but the symptoms work in the shadows, we had no idea she was sick. She didn't throw up, she didn't faint, nothing, she was... Normal. By the time we realized, she had gone out to sea, the sea returned her and she was like this..." Her Mom explained, her voice cracking.

"She's... She's dying..." I whispered, they nodded. "She doesn't have that long left..." Her Dad said, tears were filling his eyes as he held them back, trying to be strong. I took her hand, and suddenly her eyes opened. "M-Maui... You... Your here..." She whispered. Tears filled my eyes just hearing her voice, so dry and hopeless. "I'm here, princess, I'm here." I said, stroking her hand with my thumb.

Her parents stood and went to talk to the healer, I heard them asking if anything at all could be done. "Maui, H-How'd you know..." She coughed, and I shushed her. "Don't talk Moana, focus on healing up." I said. "There is... No healing for me... There's no... Hope..." She whispered. "No, no don't you say that, your the one who taught me there's always hope, Moana. You just, you have to know where to look. Please, know where to look, I can't lose you..." I started crying now, it must have shocked everyone, a demigod crying.

"Maui, there is... No where you could go... That.. I wouldn't be with you..." She lifted her free hand shakily, cupping my cheek. "Moana, this is to soon, your to young, its not your time.." I said, she smiled to me. "Sometimes, the end is closer than we expect, Maui... We just have to accept and move on..." She said. "No, I can't accept it, I can't lost you yet..." I said, she took a deep shaky breath. "Maui, I... I want to tell you something..." She said.

"Anything, Moana, tell me anything." I said. "I, I know this isn't the best time... I... Probably should have told you sooner, but... I.. I love you Maui..." She said, my eyes widened, and I thought about what she said. Love? Is that this feeling I have? Love? It... It must be.. I was about to tell her, when suddenly, she squeezed my hand and her eyes closed, and her grip immediately loosened. "Moana?" I asked, her parents looked over.

"Moana?! No, no no no! Moana, please no, please..." I checked her pulse, and it wasn't there. Her Mom put her hands over her mouth and started crying, her Dad pulled her into his arms, crying as well. I was crying, trying to find some type of pulse, anything. "Maui, we're sorry, she's gone..." Her Dad spoke, I shook my head. "No. No, I refuse. I'll get her back, I'm not letting her die like this, she is the master wayfinder, she's saved the world, she deserves a much more honorable way to die than this."

"Maui, you can't escape death, it's the most certain thing of the world." Her Mom said. "I'm a demigod. I'll find a way. Keep her body in tact, don't bury her, don't burn her, make sure she has a body to return to." I said, standing up. "Where are you going?" They asked. "To the realm of spirits." I replied, leaving. I shapeshifted into my hawk form, determined to save her.

I will save Moana.
