¨Come on, play with us!¨

A ship sailed for a faraway land

Sailing slowly farther and farther

Onboard there was naive joy

For soon a storm, a silent marcher

¨Come on, play with us!¨

When a wave broke over the bow

The captain could only gape

They had families and children

All were filled with horror and the fear of no escape

¨Come on, play with us!¨

The people onshore could only wait

Hope and wait forever

Slowly it sailed back light

Not a soul was on board, silence reigned wherever

¨Come on, play with us!¨

Waiting forever they grew old

One by one they died

The grandchildren forgot

The legends ran out of steam and dried up

¨Come on, play with us!¨

But what was never said out loud

They saw them at night and during the day

They were always watching and waiting

Dismissed as they made their way

¨Come on, play with us!

Always at noon and midnight

They spoke soft and mum

Some were children grown up inside

Other merely wanted some fun

¨Come on, play with us!¨

They murmured at night

Creeping through the walls

Hovering over their beds

They appeared at night, the thralls

¨Come on, play with us!¨

Strengthening their grip

Choking the life and gaining the life

Grandparents killing grandchildren

The town abandoned, all in the afterlife
