My head fills with the overpowering noise of my alarm, my stomach fills with dread. School.
I stand up, still barely conscious, and patter into the bathroom. I look in the mirror and groan. My hair is like a bush, straggly and as frizzy as ever, my eyes look black with sleep deprivation and my skin is blotchy and dry.
I grab my makeup bag and sit in front of my mirror, teeth freshly brushed I feel marginally better; I grab my foundation and blend it into my skin, conceal my under eye circles and apply mascara. It livens me up at least a tiny bit.
Pulling on my uniform I look outside and sigh. Although the holidays may be over, summer clings to Treaddur Bay like a limpet; the sun shines down brighter than ever, twinkling off the sea like thousands of tiny stars.
I grab a brush and rip it through my unruly mane, I split it into two halves and begin to plait it.
I grab a banana out of the fruit bowl on the way to the front door; I'm positive, even now, that I won't eat it.
"I'm going to school!" I shout, I get no reply but if I'm honest I wasn't expecting one; Dad will be at work, Mum will be asleep.
I wander along the sea front, until I reach a little bit of pavement leaning over into the beach and wait for Elliot, I know he'll be late, always is, too busy perfecting his hair, he's worth the wait though, he's been there since we were little and I tell him everything, I can't wait to tell him about this summer.
