The Last Stage

I woke up again to the purple ceiling above me. The room had gotten colder and I shiver under the blanket. I look at my shoulders and poke it. It doesn't hurt that much anymore so I should be fine. There was no clock to look at the time here. How long have I slept? I get in a sitting position and look towards the slightly opened doorway. I look back down at my lap and tremble. Not from the cold, but just by thinking of my fate. My twisted fate.

I rub my hands against my face. I don't want to experience death again. I just met Sans and I wanted to restore everything to the way it was. It was a mistake for me to come here in the first place. Chara possesses Frisk's body and. . . and everything seemed to crumble away into nothing. I tore the bloody bandages off and sigh. I have no choice but to accept it. I can't find any way around it.

I grip onto the blanket firmly before shoving it off me. I shouldn't be thinking about this now. I almost jump at the cold contact with the floor. Sans' slipper would be useful right about now. I unwrap the bloody bandages and replaced them with new ones before skipping towards the doorway. I peer around it, but he was nowhere to be seen. I groan. I guess I'll have to find him myself.

I wander along the long halls and marvel at the hanging pictures. It's been so long. . . almost too long. Who or what had resurrected me? Why am I supposed to fill out this deed only to die again? There are so many questions I wanted to ask. I shouldn't be here. Shouldn't exist. . .

I ended up wandering down the golden hallways or what they like to call the Judgement Hall. I looked at my reflection on the floor and sigh. My hair was a mess and I look. . . well dead. Not like a corpse but a person who should not have been brought back. I stop in the middle of the hall and my eyes widen. Her knife had embedded itself in the wall through Sans' chest. Her necklace, which glowed a bright red color, was absorbing his soul creating a faint purple light. The halls were filled with broken bones and blood. A nightmare come true.

"You failed to protect her and you definitely hurt her enough as it is. Oh, but don't worry. . ." She twists her knife slightly. "I'll take VERY good care of her." I didn't care if my shoulders ached. I didn't care if her knife was going to stab me. I ran towards her and slammed myself into her. "Don't touch him!" She falls backward and lands on the floor with an "oomph". I turn only to see Sans' color drained. He looks so lifeless.

I look at her with rage. I've been mad before, but this had me seething in anger. My blood boiled just to look at her. "You're a bit too late." I bit my tongue to keep myself from saying anything and took a deep breath. "What do you want?" She playfully twirls the knife around her fingers. "What do I want?" She breathes out a laugh and jams the knife into a wall. "I want your soul. MY soul. The very last piece."

I put a hand to my chest and grip my shirt. From behind, I can hear him shuffling. His eyes glowing a bright red, save for the blue. "Don't." Chara laughs. "What do you want (Y/n)?" I didn't dare give her the satisfaction of my fear. I wanted to scream and knock that smirk off her face, but I made sure to keep in check. I can't let my anger blind me. Not now. Chara points her knife at me. "If you can answer my riddle correctly, I'll let you have it. However. . . if you fail to answer it correctly, your soul and his will be mine to keep."

Just hearing those words was like a brick slamming in my face. "Ready (Y/n)?" I look right in her eyes. "Wait. There is another request." She sighs and glares at me. "What would that be?"

"You will bring back everyone and never have the power to reset again." Chara seems to hesitate for a moment. "Such a large bargain, but I'll accept. You probably won't be able answer this riddle." I walk towards her until we were about ten feet away. She smirks. She strides around the hall, walking around me in circles like a predator would to its prey. "This very thing you were born with pleases us all. It's even capable of making men and women alike fall, while only experienced by few it is treasured by all."

My mind goes blank. I had no idea what the answer was. I tried pulling up every word, but there was nothing that came to mind. The very thing I was born with? Treasured by all but make men and women fall? I was terribly and utterly confused. I'm doomed. Chara giggles. "I'll give you two days starting now." She slowly begins to fade. "I hope you will have a suitable answer for me then." She disappears and I was left alone.

I drop to my knees and shudder at the thought of giving my soul to her. I can already see this timeline crumbling before my eyes as the time ticks away. I crawl over to Sans and his HP had gone back down to a one. He looks at me in horror and grabs my wrist. "Why did you do that?! Don't you know who you're dealing with?! You'll be killed!" I grab his hands and my tears fall as I brush my hands down his cheek. "You're safe. That's all that matters to me." He painfully sits up against a column and looks at me. "I could lose you! I can't fight anymore. . . "

"I know. . . but if it means bringing everyone back, then I'm willing to sell my soul to her." I wrap my arms around him. He was so weak and he limply lies in my arms. "I promise. . . all of this will finally be over. You can see your brother again." Since he was light, I was able to carry him to the bedroom with ease. I pull the covers over him as he lies there heavily breathing.

This very thing you were born with pleases us all. . .

I hold his hand in my own.

Capable of making men and women alike fall. . .

I sat on a stool next to him and rest my head against the bed, closing my eyes. Every second counts.

While only experienced by few, it is treasured by all.

My hand tightens around his. It was still so confusing. What did it mean? What is the answer?

I watched Sans. Only a few hours before I have to go. He hasn't opened his eyes. Either from the soul sucked out of him or exhaustion.
