The light pink scenery flashed before my eyes as I gazed through the large window of a city transit bus and towards the lush field of newly-blossomed sakura trees. I had my earphones in, allowing me to zone out everything else around me and focus solely on my thoughts. My elbow resting on the small ledge provided by the window, and my chin placed in the palm of my hand, I was finally able to take a moment to relax. These last few days have been pretty difficult for my dad and I, since we just moved into a brand new home, which flipped our lives completely upside down. We still aren't fully unpacked yet, and I never thought about how hard it would be to get ready in the mornings and still manage to look somewhat decent. It's funny how your life can go from calm to chaotic in just a blink of an eye.

About a week ago, my dad lost his job and we were forced to get up and move from my hometown Hargeon to big city life in Magnolia. It was so sudden that I hardly even had a chance to say goodbye to my two best friends that I had left behind.

As if on cue, my phone buzzed from the inside of my pocket, tearing me away from my thoughts. I was unsurprised to see the screen brighten up with a new text from Aquarius, 'Michelle and I already miss you so much!! You need to visit ASAP' I laughed slightly to myself and decided that I would text her back after I figure out how to get to school. I clicked out of my messages and opened up the Magnolia Transit app that I had downloaded onto my phone last night so that I could check how close my bus was to the school. Thankfully, the stop that I needed to get off at was just a quick 15-minute drive from my house.

The bus suddenly came to a halt and I began to bring myself back to reality as I shoved my earphones into my bag and began pushing my way around a few people that were standing in the aisle, bringing myself towards the open door. Thanking the driver, I stepped out of the bus and took in a deep breath of the cool air around me. You could tell that spring was right around the corner by the musky smell of the dead grass that laid dormant beneath a thin layer of snow. I swung my backpack over my shoulder as the bus pulled away from the curb behind me, and took my first step towards my new school.

Arriving at my destination, I surveyed the large building from the outside and decided that it looked almost exactly like most of the schools back home with its weathered brick walls and boxy shape. It had a lot of large windows lined with an old wooden trim, and one large central door in the front that was made of the same material that framed the windows.

There were a few groups conversing in small huddles outside, while others began making their way inside - most likely due to the cold temperature. Following some of the students through the door, I was surprised to see a number of people standing in the foyer. They were all talking with one another, laughing and smiling. Everyone looked like they were exactly where they were supposed to be and it made my stomach turn as nerves began to kick in. The only time I ever switched schools was earlier this year when I moved from junior high to high school which wasn't really a big deal because I had all of my friends with me. This time I was completely alone.

The inside of the building was much nicer than the exterior, and I was surprised at how clean it was. Just to the right of the main entrance was the office, clearly marked by a large black plaque with the words 'Main Office' engraved onto it in a white font. As the first bell rang, I reluctantly pushed open the squeaky wooden door and walked up to the middle-aged woman sitting at the front desk. I told her my name and she wasted no time standing up and walking to the back of the room where she had a cabinet of files. After searching for a few moments, she walked back towards me and smiled as she placed a small pile of papers on the desk between us. She excused herself from the room and I took a seat in one of the black plastic chairs lining the wall of the office. I took the time that she was gone to look over my schedule, I knew that I would be taking English, Science, Art, and Phys. Ed. since I already had them during second semester at my old school. I realized that my suspicions were correct when I looked at the schedule that was placed on my lap. I had art first, followed by English, and then after lunch I had science, and Phys. Ed. last.
