I stood in disbelief as my eyes absorbed the man in front of me. His green hair was bright as ever, his shirt was as white as the one he wore on our last encounter and his grey eyes bore into mine so intensely I found it difficult to hold his gaze.

I felt as though I couldn't speak as if I was opening my mouth but my voice was failing me.

The Joker smiled at me it was a smile that put me on edge. He slowly began to move closer to me circling me like sharks circle unsuspecting surfers

"You look good darling" he said as his grin widened

I frowned and wrapped both of my arms around my torso as if I was shielding the cold. He stared me down and I felt like a piece of meat.

"Now come with me" Jay said suddenly Wrapping an arm around me and forcing me to walk with him.

My brain was freaking out I couldn't go with him. Every nerve in my body was telling me to stop. So I did.

I quickly ripped Jays arm from mine and pushed him away from me. He reacted quickly, rounding on me.

"Don't take another step" I commanded

Jay chuckled

"It seems my mermaid has found her voice" he replied

"I'm not 'your' anything" I retorted

"Oh Shayla" he said as he reached out to caress my cheek

"Don't lie to yourself darling"

I pushed his hand off my face and turned away from him

"Go to hell" I said quietly

"Only if you join me" he countered

I rolled my eyes turning back to face him

"I will never join you for anything ever again" I said through gritted teeth before beginning to walk out of the alley

"But Shay we used to have such fun" he said a maddening look haunting his face

"Fun?!" I almost screamed as I whipped around

I stormed towards the Joker backing him up against the brick walls

"You ruined me" I whispered as tears threatened my eyes

The Jokers face wore an unreadable expression. I slowly backed away from him

"I can fix you" Jay said quietly

I shook my head as a tear fell from my eyes

"I should've died on that rooftop" I stated before starting to walk away

Before I could get to the end of the alley I was pulled back into the Jokers arms and before I could protest his lips were on mine.

After a moment I pulled back Jays hands were on my waist and this whole situation felt oddly familiar. I could feel Jays eyes studying me. This couldn't happen, how was I still allowing this to happen after everything.

"I'm leaving" I spoke breaking our short silence

His eyes met mine

"New York is stealing you is it?" He asked

"Or is it your friend" he finished a rare shine illuminating his eyes

"It's none of your business" I scowled pushing him away

"Don't leave" he said

"There's nothing you could do to make me stay" I replied shortly before turning and leaving him standing there in the alleyway.

"We shall see about that princess" The Joker whispered into the night.

"Shay!"

"Shayla"

"Wake up!"

I was woken by the loud voice of my father which broke through my Joker filled dreams. My eyes sprung open and I saw a clearly distressed Bruce Wayne pacing around my bedroom.

"Dad?" I questioned but he didn't respond

"Dad! What's wrong!" I yelled

He turned to me slowly, sitting down on my bed.

"Sweetheart. There is no easy way to tell you this"

I frowned my heart beginning to race in anticipation waiting for my fathers next words

"It's Kyle. He's dead"
