Adrenaline pumped through my veins as I could feel the world slow down. I watched the disk I threw slice across the room. Luc easily sidestepped and the disk buried its edge in the wall. He leapt away from the desk, pushing off to jump toward me and drawing a short rapier simultaneously. I grinned, taking up a fighting stance and spinning to dodge the gleaming blade. I pulled out my own short sword and crossed it with his, our eyes locking once more. We held our gazes in silent struggle until Luc flicked his eyes down before sweeping his left leg around to undermine my stance. I leapt over his leg easily and pinned him to the ground, my blade pressed against his neck.
"It's nice to see you too." Luc said with a grin. I gave him a small smile, getting up from the ground. I offered my hand to him, pulling him up as a friendly gesture.
"I can see that I'm still the better at fighting." I said jokingly. He scowled, something darker flashing behind his eyes, but it disappeared quickly. Luc and I were childhood friends, and we would often spar in greeting each other. It might've seemed odd to other people, but he always wanted to improve and finally best me in a fight. I got used to the fights, and it became our thing.
Although I was glad to see him, my dream from the night before crept into mind. The hostility from Luc in my dream was clear, though nothing of the sort could be seen in his eyes now. I frowned.
"Luc, why are you here?" I questioned. He laughed at my straightforwardness.
"Always right to the point, aren't you?" He spoke, shaking his head with a smile. My eyes went back to Maria, who had been silently watching the entire exchange. She nodded, signaling to let Luc explain what all this was about. I noticed a new trunk had been placed next to her desk. That explained why Maria was so calm about this situation. Luc's smile disappeared, and his expression became serious.
"I need you to come with me for a while. It's about her."
I am soooooooo sorry that I didn't update when I said I would, but I just didn't have enough time, and there was too much to do, and gaaahhhhhh. Just saying that the chapters will probably be about this length from now on, as the first chapter was really too long for my liking, and took too long to write. Sorry again, and thank you for being the awesome understanding people you are!!!!!!!
