Death was a lonely man. He was always looking for people to take with him. Only those tired of living were happy to see him. Those who were sick felt relief upon his appearance. But often he came unexpected. He came and went. Surrounded by colorful spirits.
One day he was walking through the forest. A woman and her daughter wanted to spend time together, away from the world. They had been laughing, running, picking flowers. Now it was awfully quiet, the only sound that could be hear was the soft sobbing of the mother. Her daughter was laying on the ground with closed eyes.
Death stepped out of the shadows, ready to take daughter's blue soul with him.
Death saw the mothers golden eyes. He knew he wouldn't be taking the blue soul. He was unable to. Because this woman was what Death feared most, yet loved the most. Sworn enemies, they were and would always be. Death respected her, adored her, loved her and hated her.
This woman was no one else than his wife.
This child was no one else than his daughter.
And no one else but him was the one doing this to them. It was because of him that she laid there. But he couldn't take her away. She was too strong for him. She was the only thing stronger than Death.
This girl was Hope. And Hope would always be stronger than Death. Hope was there as long as her mother was there. Hope was born out Life. Hope defended Life and fought Death. Nothing was stronger than Hope. Without Hope, Life and Death would fight, destroying the world.
Life glared at Death. Death stared at Hope. Hope smiled at Life.
It would be like this as long as they existed. One family, all going together yet always seperated.
That was how it was.
