I awoke suddenly to see a man in the corner peering at me with fear in his eyes. I sat up, and some type of cloth slid off of me, I peered at it confused. I’d seen Daddy where similar things like this…
“What do you want with me? Why didn’t you eat me?!” he demanded fiercely, but I tasted the fear dripping from his lips. I moved towards him, and he sat rigid and unmoving as I pressed my fingers delicately against his lips.
“Why do you say this with fear?” I tilted my head confused. “Why are you afraid of me?”
“You’re… A monster!” he shot at me. I sat back for a moment, shocked at these words that he now sculpted around me.
“M-monster? I’m a monster?” I felt an unknown feeling jab at my chest. I stopped and pressed my hand where the pain came from. “Why do these words you accuse me of cause pain?”
He looked at me confused, “Wh-Oh. I hurt you. What I said hurt your feelings.”
I nodded only slightly at the new emotion. “I assure you, I am no monster. Daddy said that people come to look at me for my beauty.”
“Daddy?” he looked at me for a moment confused, then it seemed as if all emotion in him dropped.
“Yes… Daddy… Have you met him?” I asked him with curiosity painted within my words.
“Not personally…” he paused for a moment. “You… You’re so different than what they say… You’re a goddess? It’s hard to believe…”
“Goddess?” I frowned confused, “Made up beings from the Heavens? I assure you I am no such thing.”
“Karishma… you… are a disastrous wonder.” He shook his head at me.
*POV: Alexander*
“Karishma?” she asked me confused. She frowned at me slightly. “Where is this Karishma you speak of?” she looked at me with utter confusement.
She wasn’t dumb; it just seemed she was sorely misled of her surroundings… This was extremely crazy. We hadn’t thought of this astounding possibility. She, in all reality, was pure, just as the snow. She seemed to be completely unaware that her father was a murderous killer set out to control the world. But still... Somewhere inside of me, I chose not to trust her. For all I know, it could be an act. However, my heart said otherwise... And when you're brain and heart doesn’t agree, you're either in love- I cringed at the fact- or just lost. I was lost.
“You’re Karishma… That’s what your followers call you…” my voice trembled as I leaned to learn more.
“I don’t have followers, I have guests who come to see me and witness how beautiful I am. I do not think I am beautiful… I am merely like everyone else.” She frowned almost in disgust at my words. She suddenly leaned forward to touch my face. “Out of everyone who observes me… Why are you so beautiful?”
I jerked away at those words… “I am a dirty man…” I shook my head. She was… She was so pure… Why is this beast… Is this beast tricking me? I won’t be led like a fool by this beast. She was engineered to be a genius… She couldn’t possibly be so unaware of who she is.
“What do you call yourself?” I asked her, I needed to at least know the name…. The name of what-
“My name is Kaethe Adalia Macht, I’m a normal girl.” She grinned as she grabbed my hand. “It truly endears me that you want to know so much about me… No one ever talks to me so much as you do… They all peer at me from windows, even daddy… Except for the one time he touched me… Well, he hit me.” She frowned. “He said that I disgust him, and I should never be asked to be touched again… So, I didn’t ask ever again because it would hurt daddy. Please…” tears welled in her eyes as she grabbed my hand and spread out my palm and laid her hand in mine. “Touch me, stranger.” She pressed my palm to her face as her tears ran down her face like rain falling from a gray sky. “I once… Saw a young boy grab his mother like this… They came to see me… I scared the young boy. I wanted to feel how it felt to be touched that way-“
I interrupted her, “I can’t touch you, you’re a monster to me.” Those words never hurt so much in my life. I had never had someone display such emotion! But, I can’t be attached to this creature, not even feel a bit of pity… She is the cause of the root of evil in all of humanity. She… caused this pain that tortured me now. “Do you know who that boy is?” she jerked away her hands from mine as she backed into the corner.
Typical… Typical of the beast to be the prey now…
“I do not know, stranger…” she cried as she shook her head.
“Why do you lie, Karishma?” I taunted her, as I pulled the dagger from my waistband.
“I do not lie… Wh-what is that tool?” she stared at the dagger that was raised to strike at her heart in my hand.
“This is what I will kill you with.” I struggled to let the words roll from my mouth.
“Wh-why?” she stuttered as she frowned at me, her deep blue eyes met mine, she reached and only dared to touch the tips of my fingers of the hand that was clenched at my side. “Why do you wish to kill me and let me live at the same time?”
My heart dropped in my chest at those words…
I started to carve her face perfectly, even as I shut my mind for a moment. I can’t be a failure… I can’t be affected by this child. I know that our age differs… I remember when the sun touched the faces of my family and we happily danced. That was right before Bricen Macht took over the world with industry that clogged up the sunlight… Making it cold in the world and dull… I was only around ten years old at that time.
In fact, it was my tenth year when he claimed to have found a goddess… My little four year old brother, witnessed her… Karishma being born… Boris loved her, every move she made, he worshiped. On his fifth birthday, he begged our parents to take him. So, my parents could only afford to allow my mother and Boris to go. Father and I waited at home… I remember Boris hugging me and telling me that he would tell Karishma when he met her… All about our family, how fun it would be if she came… Even though I knew it was incredibly impossible for Karishma to come to such a poor house… I still nodded at my little brother, and asked him to tell Karishma that I loved her too, and I wanted her to come be a part of our family.
I… I remember Boris’s face when I said that… He was so delighted, and everyone around him was delighted that he was happy too. I only patted him on the head as he smiled and told me that he would return to father and I. We waved him and mother off happily as she held his tiny hands…
“He was... Your little brother?” she suddenly gripped at my hand. “Where is he?” She smiled at me.
“You’re so fucking stupid.” I grabbed for her throat. For such a powerful creature, she squirmed in my grip.
“What DID Boris, tell you?! Before you murdered him?!” I screamed, as for the first time… I felt the tears that I never cried at his and mother’s funerals roll down my eyes.
“Th-Their dead?” I loosened my grip as I felt the shock of her being wilt.
“Don’t lie… You know.” I seemed to be more of assuring myself than her.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know… I didn’t… I swear.” She cried as she gripped at my shirt while I dropped her. She was now weeping at my feet. “What happened to them? He told me… Alexander loved me… I think. I think Adalia even knew… Well, I knew… That he meant it the most out of anyone. I just wanted to be loved by you.” She wept.
In these moments… They changed everything. Was this… Beast-no, girl… Was she my enemy the whole time? Who was she? What was she? I’m unsure… This girl was just alone as me.
We were alone in a world of corruption… Are we? I only remember crying into the girl’s long white hair as she curled up in my arms… I wept to darkness and light.
