So this is a question that I am often asked: "How does this underground tower thing work?" I based this structure off of the famous QUINTA DA REGALIERA and it's famous Initiation Pool. I cannot post pictures of it here without violating copyright, but please google it just to see it. It is a famous world heritage site and I would give my eye-teeth to see it in person.

Also: if anyone can find me a royalty-free stock photo of this staircase, let me know!

My poor renderings below are a mere shadow of my thoughts.

Above ground, there is a four sided structure of unassuming stone. It's basically a foyer that protects this huge hole in the earth, which is the actual tower.  There are trees all around the lip of the hole, and carefully positioned mirrors to catch the sunlight and reflect it to other mirrors that wind down the walls of the stair case.

At every turn of the stair there is a landing.

There are doors and windows at each landing leading to rooms that are carved into earth. Sunlight from the mirrors pours light at all times of the day into these rooms.

At the very bottom of the stair case there is a deep well where Icons have been known to see the future.
