Prologue:
In space, the stars don't twinkle.
Apparently, twinkling only happens when you look at the stars through the atmosphere of a planet.
Out here there's no atmosphere... there's only The Nothing.
The Nothing is omnipresent and always silent. You can talk to The Nothing as much as you want, but it doesn't ever talk back,
Thousands of times I've asked The Nothing why it took my family that night, but I've never heard a word in reply. I suppose, in a way, The Nothing took me that night too.
I have felt Nothing since then, and sometimes I convince myself I am Nothing.
But then the rockets turn on to make a course correction, and I am reminded I have ears that can hear.
I shout back at the loud rockets to remind myself I have lungs--
-- I have a voice.
Eventually the rockets go silent and I am alone with The Nothing once more...
... coasting towards my destination...
... frictionless, in the void.So this isn't exactly my own idea or anything. None of the characters or ideas are mine. I was reading a webtoon called Space Boy by Stephen McCranie, and fell in love with it. If you like this, then check out the real thing. That is the real deal right there.
