"You're off the River Vixens." Cheryl snapped, unzipping the top for me, I jumped away from her, "why?" I furrowed my eyebrows, trying not to grow annoyed with her behavior. "Because of how you talked to my mom, you have no respect." She continued pulling the material from my body, "Cheryl!" I snapped, running a finger across the welt she had left with her overly long nails. "I can undress myself, thank you very much." I remarked, yanking my stuff out of my locker and going to change. "You're one to talk about respect, where's yours?" I threw the uniform at her, stomping off with my things in hand.I let the school door swing shut behind me as I went out to sit by the bleachers, along with Betty and Veronica, some of the other River Vixens sitting out there as well, due to practice being cut short by Cheryl's attitude. "Where's your uniform?" Veronica asked, looking away from the football team practicing, I glanced out there and instantly found Reggie. "Cheryl kicked me off the team." I sat down in between her and Betty, staring ahead of us. "What? Why?" Betty looked at me, surprised at my statement, I made a face as I chewed on my lip. "I may have told her mom off at Pops after you brought Polly to Veronica's place." I explained to Betty, glancing over at Veronica too. "Really?" They chorused, I normally keep to myself.
"She was being a-" "bitch?" Veronica finished for me, I nodded laughing under my breath, "exactly." I answered, watching the familiar team captain jog over to us. I stood up meeting him at the bottom of the bleachers, "see something you like, Keller?" He quoted himself from the first day of school, wow, that feels like a lifetime ago. "Not a chance, Mantle." I smiled teasingly, "where's your outfit?" He asked, noticing Betty and Veronica in theirs and me in my normal clothes. "Little miss red kicked me off the River Vixens, because of how I told her mom off." I laughed, I miss River Vixens, but I don't care enough to be torn up about it.
"Well, you're still gonna cheer me on, right?" He flirted, glancing back as coach started calling for him. Reggie started backing up slowly, stalling for my answer. "I think it can be arranged." I smirked, feeling my face warm up when he winked and turned back around, jogging back over to coach. "I ship it." Veronica bounced in her spot as I climbed back up the bleachers to sit with them, "it'll be written on your tombstone." Betty and I remarked simultaneously, Veronica rolled her eyes lightly, but light heartedly. I stumbled and landed in my spot between them, I leaned back acting like I had done it on purpose. We started making small talk, wasting time, occasionally paying attention to the practice when their was additional shouts.
I glanced up hearing some shouting, but it sounded more rushed, my eyes scanned over the field, seeing the familiar practice jersey clad boy laying on the ground, "Mantle!" Coach called, waiting a moment before some of the players rushed over to him, coach included. I stood up, debating on running down the bleachers or not. Betty grabbed my hand, keeping me in place as she stood up as well, Veronica following suit. Archie glanced up, and I knew something had to be broken, wether it be as small as a single finger, or as big as his entire leg. I pulled my hand gently from Betty's grip, not tearing my eyes off of Reggie as he limped across the field with the help of Archie and Moose.
"She's fine, coach." Reggie spoke up as coach was about to tell me to stop, I sighed, sitting next to him on the bench. I grimaced as I saw his ankle was most definitely sprained, coach looked up at him, and Reggie tried to shake it off but he instantly groaned in pain before he could even attempt to put his full body weight on it. "Hey, you just have to take care of it for a week and hope it doesn't need to be looked at by a doctor." I assured him, pulling his eyes off of his injury, "what if it needs to be-" "It won't." I cut him off, smiling in reassurance as one of the guys went to go get some stuff for his ankle. "Rest up Mantle, no practice until you're healed." Coach took the helmet from Reggie's grip and I could see how badly he didn't want to let it go.
