The loudness of the bus hurt my ears. Raindrops danced down my window. I watched the scenery change as the bus drove past the houses. I plug in my earbuds and turn up the volume in a desperate attempt to shut them out. We stopped one more time before driving to the school. My friend, David, sat next to me. "Hey Conor. Why do you look depressed?" I tried to shrug off his question. "Nothing... I'm okay."
As we walk into the building, I look up at the trophies that lined the walls. "Did you forget to do your English homework?" I nodded my head. "Then what'a wrong?" I didn't respond. I turned into my hallway, and opened my locker. I never realized how loud homeroom is until now. It was 8:10 and my teacher , Mrs. Helner, stood at the front of the class. " Okay good morning students! Today we're going to begin." On the board, she wrote 'Grammar.' The entire period I didn't say a word. It wasn't like me. Usually, I don't shut up. But today is different. In 2nd period we had a substitute. It wasn't that bad. She had no idea what she was doing. It was just an interesting period. At lunch, I sat alone. I just had something on my mind. I was just alone with my thoughts until David sat next to me. "Why are you sitting alone?" "I just want to be alone today." I responded quietly. "Why?" "I just want to." He then left and sat next to his friends. I can't tell him, I thought to myself. He can't know how I feel.
