CHAPTER ONE

"BEFORE YOU FREAK OUT with your tens of thousands of questions, let me explain.."

I rolled my eyes toward the ceiling, as if searching for the patience within a higher being, before setting my keys on the ring by the door, closing it behind me. "Hello to you, too." I greeted my little brother, Liam, as I took of my coat, fluffing my blond hair from where it was pinned inside the leather material.

A huff was emitted from where he stood across the living room, hands stuffed in his blue hoodie before matching my own eye roll with matching blue eyes. "Hi Brooke, how was your day, Brooke? Just as pessimistic as usual, Brooke? That's to bad, Brooke. The weather is cooling down a bit, isn't it Brooke? In fact-"

I held up a hand as I passed him to enter the kitchen, cutting him off. "Okay, okay, you little devil." My blue eyes flicked up to meet his victorious grin with a scowl. "I'm going to regret this, but.... what's the dilemma this time?"

The sophomore opened his mouth, and I held up a hand again, wincing as his chemosignals went absolutely haywire in a mix of ebullience, nerves, anxiety,  and the hint of anger that always simmers beneath the surface and under his skin, something that will always be there with his I.E.D.

"Wait a minute, and cool down a bit. It seems to me like you're the one freaking out." I instructed my brother, smiling as he took a few deep breaths, calming his heart rate considerably. "Okay, now what am I freaking out about?"

Liam fiddled with a pair of earbuds hanging around his neck, not exactly meeting my eyes as he spoke, causing my concern to spike a notch. What has got him so wound up?

"So, um, you know it's a full moon tonight and all-" That's it. How could I forget? Especially considering the last time it was a full moon, my werewolf little brother ripped off all of his clothes and ran around the town naked. It was decided then that that would be the last time he was trusted on his own during this time for a long time.

I waited patiently for him to finish his rambling, jumping in when he finally took a breath. "So you want me to drive you to Scott's house so he can help you control it so you don't terrorize the whole town- got it." A smug smile stretches across my face at his petulant expression as I pass him to grab my keys again.

"Not his house." I pause, and turn to him, furrowing my eyebrows, a disapproving frown already playing at my lips.

"Well if you think I'm allowing you to go anywhere else than your alpha's house on a night like tonight, well-" I begin a tirade, arms crossed against my chest.

Liam throws his head back to the ceiling, groaning loudly to drown out my words to the point where I stop talking. "Oh my God, Brooke, would you stop smothering me for one second?"

"Someone has to." I mutter under my breath, something he catches with the heightened hearing courtesy of his lycanthropy.  Liam gives me a reprimanding glare, and I huff, rolling my eyes. "Okay, fine, where am I taking you?"
