Dean
There was nothing around that Dean could find that was safe to eat. So many plants bloomed around them with berries, looking succulent but deadly. He had taken that stupid training course on how to survive when something went AWOL, and he had never been so grateful of anything in his life because they probably would've been dead from eating poison berries.
"Dean? Adam? Hannah!" Cas shouted, jolting up beside the pain. He had just awoken from a night terror, and Dean couldn't feel more helpless on not being able to help him. Quickly, Dean was at his side, holding him tightly. "I'm right here," he said firmly, not being able to utter the words that his friends Adam and Hannah weren't a part of the survivors. It was just them two against nature with bad wounds and on enemy territory. The threat to be captured was at a high, and Dean wouldn't risk his and Cas' lives to go back and see if the other two survived.
Cas just panted and looked at Dean, the fear in his eyes subsiding and being replaced with embarrassment. "'m sorry," he murmured, wincing as he gripped his torso. It was wrapped tightly with Dean's army jacket, and the restriction was making it hurt less. "I never really imagined this would happen to me, I heard about this happening but..." His friend trailed off, and Dean sighed, collapsing beside him and covering his face.
Shit, Dean didn't either. It was suppose to be a quick mission and fight for his country. Now, he wasn't even sure he was going to ever make it back home. He didn't even know if he was going to survive or if they'll make it back to camp. Everything was torn apart, and now their lives were to be gambled with. The possibilities were endless on how they would end up, and Dean could only hope they didn't get the short end of the stick.
A hand softly rested on Dean's shoulder, pulling him into Cas in a comforting embrace. "If we believe," he said softly, and Dean finished what was slowly becoming their saying. Who would've thought he'd make such a bond with a guy he met on a plane who happened to be going where he was? "we'll be fine."
Silence enveloped the two, Dean taking in a shuddering breath. He was terrified, but he had to take care of Castiel. He was off worse than him, and he would protect him for all it was worth. "Come on, I found a stream awhile away, we can make it before dark." Cas nodded, getting up with a bit of struggle. "How did you find it?" "The area, every animal is more towards that way. We can get water and try to get some edible food."
They reached the stream, and it was smaller than expected. When they reached it, they scared off some animals. Dean helped Castiel to lean against a tree, going down to the stream and cupping his hands in the cool water. It made his body buzz in victory, and he smile broadly as he brought the water up to his lips and took a sip, the cold liquid refreshing his dry throat and making him drink more, splashing some on himself to wash off the blood and grime.
Dean was snapped back into reality when he remembered that he left his friend against a tree while he relished in the water. He stood up and made his way back to Cas, who looked up at him before paling. Dean crouched down, confused. "Does it hurt?"
The words were full of concern- but they came from the opposite person who was suppose to be asking the question.
"What? I'm fine, no injuries besides some bruises and scrapes. The body just likes to bleed a lot, you know that right?" Dean mused, reaching to help him to the water. Castiel shook his head, gulping. "Dean, take off your shirt." The soldier stumbled back, face aflame and full of confusion. "I'm not- I don't want to hurt your feelings- we're-" Cas rolled his eyes, snapping at him. "This is not sexual! This is out of concern, so take off your damn shirt."
