Charles' POV:
When I walked into Dr. Klausen's lab, he seemed very energetic. "There's my magnificent assistant! I have a rather compromising favor to ask you. Would you quit all your part-time jobs and help me here full time?" I stared at Klausen in disbelief once again, "Well sir, I have to think about it, but it shouldn't be too much trouble if I do." Klausen grinned widely, "Then there's nothing to think about! I'll increase your salary by 3 dollars! I stood there shocked. How could I not accept this? "Alright Dr. Klausen, I'll work for you full time." Klausen clapped his hands together. "Wonderful! Now let's get to work."
Dr. Klausen just sat there for five minutes straight not doing anything. "Doctor Klausen, I thought we were supposed to be working on an experiment." Once again, he was deep in concentration. "Um, Doctor Klausen, I said I tho-" he waved his hand in the air. "I know what you said Harrison. I am working! I'm thinking about how to time travel." So he really wasn't kidding! "Look, Doc, I don't think it's possible." Klausen repeated himself from yesterday, "It just hasn't been done yet Charles!" He got up from his desk and went to a chalkboard. "If I were able to make a car go somewhere close to the speed of light, it would be a miraculous feat for this time period." I nodded slowly, "Yes, that's right." Klausen turned, frustrated that I couldn't see his vision. "Charles, that's the point! I can't have any machine used for transportation go close to the speed of light in this time period, so I have to think of other possibilities! My only other theory is the possibility of alternate realities." I crossed my arms, "Even if they did exist, how could you get to one without disrupting the whole world?" Klausen started pacing around the lab, "Harrison, that's what I'm trying to figure out!" He sits down on the ground and sighs, "There just has to be way."
There's still no way. I think Klausen is nuts; he still won't give up on this! He's thought of possibilities, but he can't seem to figure out a way to execute his plan. I'm not sure why he hired me either. I want to be a writer, and science is the last thing I would ever list as enjoyable! I feel like I'm useless to the man, yet he still keeps me. I thank God every day for my luck I've had with Klausen, but I don't think he's sane!
I walk over to Klausen as he still sits on the floor, looking straight ahead. "Maybe if you explain what you're thinking to me, it'll help," I suggest. Klausen turns and pats the spot next to him, and I sit down. "I'm all ears." Klausen sighs and then begins. "There are four dimensions. The first three being visual, and we easily encounter all of them on earth through length, width, and height. The fourth one is time, and what I'm trying to figure out is how we can travel in that dimension. It's not as simple as getting up and walking down the street, but I don't think it's impossible." I nod and think this over. "Well, why do you think that's possible? Time travel I mean," I countered. Klausen's eyes lit up from being able to explain more. "Well, I've noticed that most objects here on earth aren't perfect. Most things have holes, wrinkles, or cracks. If you look closely enough, you can see that even the smoothest object has imperfections." He paused for a moment, then continued. "Like with a tapestry. At first glance, the tapestry looks like one big picture, but with a closer look, you find that the fabric has little holes from it being sewn together. Because of how objects are, who or what's to say that the fourth dimension can't be like that?" I nodded again, and stood up. "Come on, we need to eat." Klausen chuckled and stood up alongside me. "Has all the dimensions talk scared you?" Klausen shook his head and made his way to get his lunch, but I stopped him. "I never said the conversation was over." I looked him in the eyes, determination hopefully showing in my face. He smiled and I could see that same fire in his eyes from just a few moments ago. "Let's eat then."
"Since there's holes we can travel through in time, can't we just find one and then go through it?" I took a bite of my sandwich, celebrating my small victory of understanding Klausen. He shook his head and put down what he was eating, also a sandwich. "It's not that simple. Just like the tears or holes in objects, they're tiny! Smaller than atoms, extremely small holes Harrison. If we were to enlarge them, it would take a lot force and power. We couldn't do it in this time we live in because of the lack of technology." We both sigh and continue eating our food. I'm halfway through my lunch when an idea hits me, "What if we can make a hole or wrinkle, whatever it's called?" I propose enthusiastically. Klausen nods and smiles slightly, "That's an option." I grin and go back to my food.
Once lunch is over, I put up my things and get ready to help make the "portal" through time.
"What are you still doing here?" Klausen asks. I give him a confused glare, "Aren't we going to make a 'portal' through time?" I laugh at my own joke, and Klausen laughs along with me, but for a different reason. "Oh Charles, you just can't simply make a hole in the fourth dimension, this requires planning!" I stand there for a second, "Like with building a house?" Klausen responds quickly, "Yes, just like that! Now I'm going to need some time to focus. When I'm ready I'll send for someone to retrieve you." With that, I start to pack up my things to leave, "Goodbye Doctor Klausen." He waves his hand at me while going to the chalkboard.
When I get home, I take advantage and sleep. Knowing Dr. Klausen, I'll be staying up long nights until we figure out this time traveling business.
In less than five minuets after my head hits the pillow, I fall into a deep sleep. Until Klausen needs me, this is where I'll be. I'm finally getting rest and not having to work from one place to the next.

Sorry if the ending was a little off, I didn't know if should've kept on going, or end it. I'm trying to write shorter chapters and get to the point, but there's a lot to explain in this book. How do you like if so far? I hope this isn't the worst, I've never written science fiction, and I'm trying something new. Please vote, comment, share, and maybe follow me?? 🙂 That's all up to you, but thank you for reading my story! It means SO MUCH. Until next time,
