"How long will I be able to live without going outside?"
The words escaped my mouth, but they were suddenly unheard. The light was growing dim, and all I could see was utter darkness.
✨✨✨
"She's having a stroke!"
Kai immediately had gotten Kuroji into the room to go and check on Rei.
He checked the monitors, and saw Rei's heartbeat shift momentarily. He let the stroke play out, and soon Rei was able to sleep.
'It was just another stroke, Rei. Soon you won't be okay.'
I thought as the day had gone to night, but I wouldn't have known that since I was asleep.
✨✨✨
"Rei, you finally woke up!"
Kai looked at me and smiled in my direction."Yeah, what's going on?"
"You're going to actually go outside!"
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Kai carefully came over to me, and helped get up from the hospital bed. Surprisingly it wasn't as bad as before.
I picked up my feet and started to walk again. Having years of being hospitalized, it can be really hard to walk around.
"There's something I want to show you, Rei. The stars in the sky are out and about."
Kai brought me towards the door, and carefully helped me open it.
"Why are you treating me like I'm a baby?"
"No reason. You just need time to adjust to the natural world."
Rei was moved outside on the cold patio. The air was crisp and cold, but that didn't stop her from getting to see the stars.
"Why did you take me out here, Kai?"
"You need to see the stars. No matter how sick you are, no matter how weary you are, you need to see the stars."
Kai took her and helped her see the stars that had twinkles erupting in the night sky.
Rei had honestly loved the stars. She had dreamed of this moment and loved it all.
Kai finally realized what the outside world was doing to Rei.
Rei was trying to be strong, but she was weakened by the cold air.
"I need to take you inside now."
"Okay,"
Kai carefully took Rei and set her on her hospital bed.
"When will I see the stars again?"
