Sick

The​ ​next​ ​day​ ​Nina​ ​wakes​ ​up​ ​in​ ​a​ ​hospital​ ​bed,​ ​tubes​ ​were​ ​all​ ​in​ ​her​ ​skin​ ​and​ ​then​ ​she​ ​felt​ ​a wave​ ​of​ ​nausea.​ ​​

Where​ ​am​ ​I?

​ Looking​ ​around,​ ​she​ ​sees​ ​her​ ​mom​ ​in​ ​a​ ​hospital​ ​chair against​ ​the​ ​bed ​and​ ​Kaneki ​sitting​ ​in​ ​a​ ​corner​ ​of​ ​the​ ​room,​ ​asleep.​ ​She​ ​was​ ​staring​ ​at​ ​him​ ​until her​ ​mom​ ​blocked​ ​her line of sight. "Nina,​ ​you're​ ​finally​ ​awake! ..you​ ​scared​ ​me​ ​and​ ​your​ ​dad yesterday!"​ ​​ ​"Sorry​ ​mom"​ ​Nina​ ​says.​ ​"No​ ​no​ ​don't​ ​be​ ​sorry...I'm​ ​just​ ​so​ ​happy​ ​you're​ ​awake." "Me too" Nina said smiling a little but wondering what the hell happened to her yesterday, the last thing she remembered was coughing up blood then passing out cold... it couldn't be that, no. "Sweetie, I have some bad news." Nina's mom says holding her daughters hand, tears streaming down her face "Your doctor​ ​said​ ​that​ ​your​ ​cancer​ ​is​ ​back. You don't have much time"​ ​Yup it was back, Nina​ ​stared ​at​ ​her​ ​mom,​ ​not​ ​able​ ​to​ ​say​ ​anything,​ ​she starts​ ​laughing​ ​deliriously.,​ ​"Mom​ ​you're​ ​funny..the​ ​doctor​ ​said​ ​that​ ​after​ ​that​ ​surgery​ ​it​ ​was going​ ​to​ ​leave."​ 

Denial. ​

Her​ ​mother​ ​just​ ​stared​ ​at​ ​her,​ ​speechless,​ ​"He​ ​was​ ​right​ ​wasn't​ ​he,"​ ​Nina​ ​says, her​ ​voice​ ​breaking,​ ​"Right?"​ ​She​ ​tried​ ​to​ ​hold​ ​the​ ​tears​ ​but​ ​they​ ​started​ ​to​ ​fall​ ​and​ ​she​ ​closed her​ ​eyes​ ​to​ ​stop​ ​them,​ ​but​ ​they​ ​wouldn't​ ​stop​ ​flowing​ ​down​ ​her​ ​cheeks,​ ​Kaneki​ ​woke​ ​up, hearing​ ​her​ ​voice,​ ​he​ ​slowly​ ​stood​ ​up​ ​and​ ​saw​ ​Nina​ ​crying​ ​on​ ​the​ ​hospital​ ​bed.​ ​Nina..the​ ​only person​ ​that​ ​understood​ ​him..the​ ​only​ ​person​ ​that​ ​actually​ ​​cared​.​ ​The​ ​tears​ ​threaten​ ​to​ ​fall​ ​but​ ​he blinks​ ​them​ ​away.​ ​​Don't​ ​cry.​ ​She​ ​needs​ ​you,​ ​​he​ ​walks​ ​over​ ​and​ ​stands​ ​by​ ​her​ ​bed,​ ​grabbing​ ​her hand​ ​softly.​ ​"Don't​ ​cry​ ​Nina."​ ​"Why​ ​not?" her voice cracking at the last word.​ ​"You​ ​are​ ​going​ ​to​ ​get​ ​better​ ​I​ ​swear​ ​I​ ​will​ ​make​ ​sure you​ ​do."​ ​Nina​ ​smiled​ ​weakly​ ​and​ ​then​ ​her​ ​nurse​ ​walked ​in​ ​and​ ​told​ ​them​ ​that​ ​she​ ​has​ ​to​ ​take​ ​her medicine​ ​privately.​ ​Kaneki​ ​walked​ ​out​ ​supporting​ ​her​ ​mom​ ​on​ ​his​ ​arm.​ ​Once​ ​they​ ​made​ ​it​ ​out,​ ​her mom​ ​hugged ​him​ ​tightly,​ ​finally​ ​letting​ ​her​ ​tears​ ​out.​ ​"I​ ​want​ ​her​ ​to​ ​get​ ​better...but​ ​the​ ​surgery​ ​cost $500,000​ ​dollars.​ ​Money​ ​that​ ​none​ ​of​ ​us​ ​have."​ ​Kaneki​ ​looked​ ​down​ ​at​ ​the​ ​floor,​ ​remembering​ ​all of​ ​the​ ​times​ ​they've​ ​helped​ ​him....

​ ​"I-I​ ​have​ ​a​ ​plan...it's​ ​crazy​ ​but​ ​it's​ ​a​ ​plan."​ ​Nina's​ ​mom​ ​nods​ ​and stares​ ​at​ ​him​ ​expectantly.​ ​.​ ​"I​ ​have​ ​a​ ​cousin​ ​and​ ​he​ ​works​ ​for​ ​the​ ​mafia..maybe​ ​I​ ​can​ ​get​ ​money from​ ​them."​ ​She​ ​stared​ ​at​ ​him​ ​and​ ​almost​ ​slaps​ ​him,​ ​but​ ​there​ ​were​ ​no​ ​other​ ​options​ ​for​ ​her​ ​to get​ ​money​ ​for​ ​her​ ​last​ ​child.​ ​"Okay​ ​but​ ​how​ ​are​ ​you​ ​going​ ​to​ ​pay​ ​them​ ​back?"​ ​Kaneki​ ​shrugs and​ ​smiles​ ​a​ ​little.​ ​"I​ ​don't​ ​know​ ​how,​ ​but​ ​I'm​ ​going​ ​to..."
