To Ella's relief it was Saturday and the start of the last week of Christmas break. At her school Christmas/Winter break was 2 1/2 weeks long. No school, no work, no stress. Only Ella and her boredom and thoughts for 2 1/2 weeks.
Thoughts. Lots of them surrounded Ella's mind. Some were good, but some were bad. There were many scenarios that played through Ella's mind, again some good and some bad. It could have gone worse. At least, that is what she tried to convince herself of.
Yesturday she made a terrible mistake. Or was it a blessing? This was to be determined, but it would be determined after the break was over. Ella didn't want to wait in agony for an answer. However, it was the only choice she had since she didn't want to talk to Ella. Ella relived the scene in her head while walking around her block. It went a little something like this.
Ella's POV
"Aww. I wanted to play another game." Olivia sulked. Olivia, Alex, Brooklyn, Morgan, and I were at Laser Tag celebrating Alex's birthday. We had just finished their last game to the dismay of Olivia and Morgan. My team dominated the game. Brooklyn and Olivia stood practically no chance to our fabulous team.
"Let them eat cake!" Alex yelled when the girls arrived back at her house.
"Yay!" The girls cheered. Even though Alex always bought vanilla cake with strawberry icing and strawberry filling, not to mention strawberries on top, we were extremely excited to dig in. It didn't matter to us that all of the forks were dirty because we simply and messily used our hands to eat the cake. It was lots of fun to act like 5 year olds again, even though most of us were 17. This was only the start.
Alex basically lives on a farm. She has a barn with horses and donkeys and lots of land. After the cake had magically disappeared we decided to go to the barn and play a little game of Truth or Dare/F***, Marry, Kill/Would You Rather. If you were chosen you had to pick one of the games and someone got to ask you the question or dare you. This got dirty ;) really quick. I actually ended up lying on a few, but for the most part I told the truth. Many questions were 'Out of ______, ______, and ______ which guy do you like most?' It was kinda awkward for me.
For dinner we had chicken gumbo that once again magically disappeared quickly. We all changed into our pjs and built a small fire in the backyard. This is when it all happened.
At this point I was tired, not just physically but mentally and emotionally too. I couldn't keep the secret in for much longer. Morgan and Olivia were tired and feel asleep on top of each other, leaving the three of us to talk.
I sat there silently contimplating. Should I? What could go wrong? Everything.
"You aren't very talkative over there Ging'r. You tired?" Alex asked me.
"No, not really. It's just I..." my voice trailed off not finishing the sentence.
"You?" Alex questioned. I think she was worried.
"If I promise to tell you two something please promise to not get mad or hate me." I could tell this worried Brooklyn and Alex even more.
"You can tell us anything, Ella." Brooklyn said assuringly. Now was the time.
I closed my eyes and said, " I'm gay." Silence surrounded me once again. The only noise was the crackle off fire. I opened my eyes and I looked straight ahead at Brooklyn then to my right at Alex.
"Ella it's perfectly okay. I'm actually bi." Alex placed her hand on my shoulder as to show approval. Brooklyn, however, said nothing.
"Brooklyn?" I was the one worried now.
"Ella, that is perfectly fine. It's normal. Now that that has been said my curiousity is killing me, who do you actually like?" Now I know she was lying straight through her teeth. She had her suspicion the whole time.
"I-I don't feel comfortable saying it." I stammered.
"Well, we can do it the way we always have. I'll say mine first." I nodded in approval of Alex's propsal. "Besides Luke, I like Olivia."
Now that Alex confessed it was my turn. I took a deep breath and blurted it out. "I like Brooklyn." Silence, again. This time is was akward, expectant. Expecting Brooklyn to speak or show any sign of anything. Instead, she just stood up and went inside.
I started after her but Alex grabbed my hand to stop me,"I think she wants to be alone right now."
"Yeah, you're probably right. I'm just going to join the two sleeping over there." I went down to the pillow fort they had made and laid my head down.
