You may notice leo hasn't had much humour in the story yet. it was explained in the last chapter so if your confused you shouldn't be.
Everyone's eyes snapped towards Leo. He hadn't said that aloud, had he? "Wha..." Leo started but Annabeth interrupted him. "The mark of Daedalus" she said in awe but Leo knew she was also a bit worried. "That means... Leo, look up" Annabeth said noticing the confused look on his face. Leo glanced towards the roof and yelped.
Floating above his head was a glowing blue triangle. Startled, Leo asked "Why am I being claimed again?" then, without waiting for an answer, "What does this triangle of Daedalus mean?" "Firstly," Annabeth said, irritated "It's not a triangle. It's a Greek delta, otherwise known as the mark of Daedalus, which means we are obviously in the Labyrinth. Which is bad. Why the Labyrinth is claiming you, I have no idea."
"Wait" calypso broke in "didn't the Labyrinth collapse a few summers ago?" "It did," Leo replied, "but when we closed the doors of death didn't Pasiphae say that it had woken again?" Leo asked Annabeth. "I have no idea" she replied "personally, I was unconscious at that point in time"
"well " Leo continued. "I'm pretty sure she said it was and that it was going to be even more dangerous." As if on cue, the ground started rumbling. An image so vivid Leo knew it wasn't his imagination appeared in his head. What he saw was rows of spikes charging though the air as fast as light, impaling he and his friends. Leo knew it would happen. Unless he prevented it.
"Run!" he yelled and jumped to his feet. His friends did the same and they sprinted down the hallway. The shink of what Leo knew was the arrows behind them. Another image appeared in his head. The tunnel collapsing. "over here!" Leo yelled and ducked into a side tunnel.
They barely made it. Dust from the collapsed tunnel stung his lungs and he wanted to stop running, but Leo knew he was their only chance of survival. Image after image appeared in his head, and each time they only just avoided them. Poison gas. Crossfire of arrows. Crumbling floor. Leo's head started to hurt but he kept on running anyway.
Finally, after what felt like forever a relieving image appeared in his head. An opening. An end to the tunnel. A way out of the maze. At the edge of the tunnel, when they would break through, there would be a familiar person with the leader like expression she always wore. "Explain." She would demand after one look at the group. No. Annabeth could not be seen by Reyna. Will was bad enough. But this?
"Annabeth. Stay here." Leo demanded, sensing no danger in that spot. Leo and calypso emerged into the sunlight, and, sure enough, there stood Reyna. "Explain." She said and Leo hoped she had not seen Annabeth. "All of you." She demanded and Leo knew his plan had failed. It was hard enough for him to get Annabeth in a safe spot, and making sure Reyna couldn't see her, but after watching the vision of Reyna in his head his brain was too frazzled to anything in a moment's notice.
Annabeth emerged, head held low so she looked more inconspicuous than if it was not, and she was... wow. Even without her head hung low she would have been unrecognizable. She was covered from head to toe in a thick layer of dust. She had cracked mud on her arms and chest and her back was bleeding a little.
Reyna took one look and instantly demanded "baths." Two of the many surrounding romans walked up and grabbed her by the arms, leading her towards the baths. Help! Her expression read. But he couldn't. two romans had already grabbed his, Will's and Calypso's arms and were leading them in the other direction.
It probably only took a few minutes but it felt like hours of trudging through New Rome. Finally, they came to Reyna's Office and grudgingly sat down on one of the chairs lining the room. "so." Reyna said, a hint of anger in her voice. "it was an average day out there and we were doing a simple training exercise. Next thing I know is a huge hole appears right in front of us, collapsing part of the hill mind you, and three people step out, one of which is unrecognizably dirty!
"well" Leo said, "ummmm, it's a long story. Reyna put on a stern face. "they you'd better start telling it."
