(Lukas' POV)

I promised Jesse that she would get better.
But she only seemed to be getting worse.
Every night she would wake up screaming bloody murder- her forehead hot from her burning fever- and every night I would be there telling her everything would be okay.
The truth is, I'm not even sure if it will be anymore.
The only good thing that has come out of this is that the four of us have finally learned to work together. We each found a rhythm that worked well with each other. Olivia would handle anything that required any critical thinking, I would handle planning, Petra would handle anything combat-wise, and Axel was more in the blowing-stuff-up department. We'd even been working on some moves, which required complete cooperation, otherwise they wouldn't work. It was a good exercise to get us to work together. After all, each of us shared a secret handshake with Jesse... why not surprise her with our own?
Petra and Axel had been working on a pretty sweet handshake. They called it the "Dynamite Kicker."
I could only hope that I would never have to figure out what that felt like.
While the others were out having fun with each other, I was stuck in Jesse's bedroom, looking after her while she slept. I was beginning to get really worried about her. Her fever didn't seem to be going down, and she hadn't stayed awake for more than five minutes. It was like all that bravado she had had before had been completely drained out of her system.
Sighing, I took the cloth off her forehead. It already felt warm, and I had just dipped it in cool water a few moments ago. I repeated the process once again, dipping the cloth in ice cold water, ringing it out, and then placing it gently back on Jesse's forehead. She groaned in her sleep and shifted a bit, the coolness on her forehead making her relax a bit.
I rested my hand on Jesse's, then I got up to go to the store for more medicine. As I did I got a message from Petra.

Petra: Hey Lukas. How's Jesse doing?

Lukas: Not so good. There's been no change, so I'm gonna get some more medicine.

Petra: Okay. We'll be over there to help out once we've finished today's chores.

I returned my phone to its pocket, and made sure Jesse was comfortable before I left the room. It was a beautiful day outside. I could hear the birds chirping, and see children frolicking in their yards. I smiled sadly, wishing Jesse was here to enjoy it with me.
The company I got was not exactly what I was expecting.
"Hey!" A familiar voice shouted. "Blonde guy!"
I looked over my shoulder to see Ivor racing towards me, looking perkier than a sunflower. He was bright red in the face; he looked like a child on Christmas, which was pretty hard for Ivor if you ask me.
Nonetheless I rolled my eyes. "It's Lukas, Ivor," I said. "How many times do I have to say it?"
"Whatever, Louis," Ivor waved his hand. "Anyways, Harper's amazing!"
"Yes, you've said that before."
"I went back to Crown Mesa, you know, just to help out with the reconstruction-"
"-Uh, huh."
"- and you should've seen it. I mean, there's a reason the Old Builders are called Old Builders! Although, I have to agree with Harper- that name is not the best. But she rebuilt the town in a flash! I, of course, helped. Then, after that Harper and I worked on a few things. I mean for the longest time I've had this idea to create a Potion of Sleep!"
"Yeah, yeah," I said, not really listening at the moment. "Ivor can we talk later? I'm kinda busy right now."
      "What's the problem?" Ivor asked.
     "It's Jesse."
"What about her? Is she hurt?" Ivor exclaimed worriedly.
"No, not that..." I said with a sigh. "She's got this cold, and it only seems to be getting worse. We're trying to do everything we can do get her better... but it doesn't seem to be doing anything."
"Don't worry, Louis," Ivor assured. "I'll whip up a healing potion, and we'll have Jesse up and about in no time!"
"Thanks Ivor," I blinked. "and it's Lukas."
Ivor shrugged and sauntered away. Ivor was actually a caring guy when it came to Jesse. He acted very fatherly towards her.
It wasn't long before Ivor had the potion made as he promised. Axel, Olivia, Petra and I all gathered around Jesse's bed as Ivor poured the potion slowly down Jesse's throat. Her features visibly relaxed, and she sighed, a small smile forming on her face. We all released the breaths we'd been holding in.
      "That's a relief," Petra said.
"Looks like that potion did the trick," Ivor said, removing his hand from Jesse's forehead. "She should be up and running in no time."
"I can't believe we didn't think of that," Axel folded his arms.
"I guess we just never thought a potion could cure a common cold." Olivia remarked.
"It doesn't really cure it," Ivor said. "But it does help tremendously. Still... she shouldn't be pushing herself or else the sickness will just come back."
        I sniggered. "Alright, Dr. Ivor."
Ivor glowered at me, and I wilted like a leaf in the water. "Do. Not. Call. Me. Doctor, Blonde guy!"
I raised my hands innocently. "Okay, okay. I take it back."
"Good!" Ivor snapped. He slammed his brown briefcase shut.
"What do we do now?" Olivia asked. "All of our chores our done."
Petra shrugged. "I guess we wait until Jesse wakes up."
"Isn't that kind of creepy?" Axel asked.
We all exchanged a look, then agreed in unison, "Nah."
So that's exactly what we did.
