"You're just a useless piece of shit! My boys do so much better than you ever have done in your life." He watched as his step-father had brought his belt down against his skin again.

The loud snap drowned the house in it's noise and the whimpers coming from the boy being beaten weren't even a match for the belt.

By the time the beating was over, there was some blood on the marbled floor. There was some pouring from a cut on Evan's head and from his nose. His lips were all split and his back stung from getting hit over and over.

"Clean up this pathetic mess!" His step-father grabbed his cheeks and brought his face close to Evan's. "If not, expect not to be moving for a few days because of how much pain you're in." He spat and gave him one last kick.

"Boys! Let's go! We'll be late for your football practice!" The step-father yelled before continuing downstairs to the car.

Two boys came down the stairs and snickered at Evan who basically was dead on the floor. It hurt for him to breathe in and he struggled to even get on his knees.

"I want my laundry done when I get back. This time don't screw it up! I don't want pink underpants!" Tyler, the eldest shouted at poor Evan. He even gave him a kick as he walked by. Have you every felt how hard a football player can kick?

"I want my room cleaned and the pool warmed so me and my girlfriend can swim later." Scotty, the youngest, said before following right behind Tyler.

Evan leaned against the stairwell railing for support and stood up. He wobbled to the nearest bathroom to wash off the blood.

His face was swollen so badly and now he could see the cuts on his back. He couldn't tend to those ones, all he could do was rap an ace bandage around his waist and chest to keep it from getting it infected.

He walked past the blood on the floor and to his room to grab another shirt and the only good memory he had in the godforsaken house.

The picture of his mother and him when they weren't with the abusive fuck.

"I'll be with you soon mom." He whispered tucking the photo in his back pocket.

He was done being treated like a slave. He was done with being a doormat for people to step all over. He was done being depressed and he was done with life in general.

He knew exactly where he wanted to kill himself. He wanted to die in the same spot his mother's ashes were spread.

The oceans cliff. The water climbing up the sides from the roaring waves. A storm was coming into shore and it was chilly.

Evan didn't particularly care if it were cold. He couldn't feel anything anyways.

He sat on the edge for a hours to the point where 5 hours had passed. Nobody had come for him. His step-father wouldn't care anyways if he were gone.

So, 2 minutes before midnight he stood up from the edge and looked down once more. Thunder began to shake the earth and it was raining now, harder than before, which was just light sprinkles.

He closed his eyes and wished everyone who had done him good in the world a good, happy life.

Especially Jonathan. He deserved so much more.

He would care if he were gone either. He had many other people to surround himself so he wouldn't be sad.

He pulled the picture once more out his pocket, the rain quickly dampening it and kissed it before letting the wind take it away.

Midnight struck and he was just about to let gravity take over him when he felt arms wrap around his waist and yank him away from the edge.

"No! Stop what are you doing! Please just let me jump please! I don't want to live anymore!" The arms around him gripped tighter and they were sitting on the muddy, water soaked ground.

Evan was thrashing in the hold trying to get away and jump, but those arms didn't let him.

"Evan, shh, calm down." A voice whispered in his ear and fingers reached for his wet hair to brush through.

"J-Jon?" Evan hiccupped and stopped squirming.

"I'm here and you're not ever going back to that place, ever." His voice was calming Evan and soon, they weren't so close to the edge.

"I'm taking you far far away from here. We'll start a new life and you can forget about your past." Jon said trying to convince Evan to go.

"W-what abo-about all y-your friends." Evan asked, words almost inaudible from his stutter and hiccupping from crying so hard.

"I don't need them when I've got you. Now come on, I can convince you life is just as good as the after life."

Evan nodded and that was all Jon needed to scoop him right up and carry him to his pick-up truck. Evan was fast asleep in the passenger seat by the time Jon had climber in to the driver seat.

He took one last look at the cliff, the cliff Evan almost took his life on and saw an almost ghostly figure at the edge of the cliff.  She was beautiful and looked similar to Evan.

Jon read her lips carefully. "Thank you." She said with a sad look, "please take care of my boy." She finished before disappearing into the rain and wind, like ashes being scattered.

Jonathan looked over at the sleeping Evan. "I won't let anything come in your harm's way." With that he kissed his forehead and started the engine.

At 2am they reached state boarder and left the dingy town behind to start a new life. A life with no abuse and sadness.

A happy new start and nothing could come in Evan's way with Jon in front of him.
