Carls's PoV:
So, tell me, who would have a date on a monster Monday, huh? we all have the whole perfect weekend for the date, so why Monday and make it miserable to an intern? it's already weird enough when the date was pushed in the last minute and i was already fucking dressed up. i was obviously stood up or whatever people would call.
so yeah, as told, I was preparing to leave for the cafe when my phone rang with a text from an unknown user saying that she wanted to delay the date to Monday instead as she had an emergency. Without further curiosity about how she got my number, i immediately knew that she is the one who was supposed to meet me today as she explained. as the gentleman i was taught to be, i responded back as politely as possible with a 'confirmation' and 'hope you are well' text, while i felt so small by the daring personality of her cancelling her date at the last minute. Yet, I don't really care much either about it and still go out to enjoy the weekend.
At one pub next to the beach of White land, it's like 8km from the city. Quite far from home. I spend my time in reading a book of my favorite, I ordered my second cup of coffee in the middle of afternoon. It's already been two hours since I've arrived. Actually, reading in this cafe is quite peaceful as you get to enjoy the view of heaven-like of the White Land beach and with the smell of coffee at all time. You can rest there relaxingly until you forget of the time with their classically serenade music of choice. I bet the owner of this cafe is quite a decent man who enjoys meditation as he displays a very healthy tone and offer good food. This is my frequent hangout place, but I'd never recommend it to anyone even my friends as I really enjoy my alone time here. If I have companions like group meeting, I'll go somewhere else.
As I sipped my second cup of hot latte, eyes roaming to the soft laughter of the girl who's a table away from mine. With her black straighten hair down to the middle of her back and dimple smiles, I feel like she's someone I know but can't recall who she is. I keep looking at her for the answer, she's so beautiful with that white dress that her beautiful smile has me blank which made me almost forget that she's with someone. They seem so close, like more than just friends as she playfully hits him and sincerely laughs as he tells jokes. I must have stared at them for more than ten seconds, I guess until she finally caught my eyes suddenly I looked away. But I can't keep my eyes away from her for long, then I look there again and she caught my eyes once again. The pattern somehow repeated for several times in an hour as she caught me looking at her with curiosity like 'do you know me?' Or things like that. And yeah, I keep looking because I really feel like I know her.
Some times passed by until the guy from that table has gone out for the phone call, and that left me sit directly in front of the girl. I couldn't raise my eyes from the book in fear that I'd have to meet her eyes if I do so since I've been caught looking at her for many times already. However, suddenly, that girl stood up and walked her way to my table and somehow approach me by,
'hey, I don't mean to be mean, but I somehow curious of whether you know me since you've been looking my way, have we met before?' Asked her bravely unlike how soft she seems.
'oh well, yeah, I think we have, but I can't remember when and how, I just kinda recognize your face like I've seen you somewhere, and I'm sorry if my stares offended you, I'm so sorry.' Answered me honestly as I sincerely apologized for my rude behavior.
In which she immediately responded, 'oh no, I just asked out of curiosity since I didn't have my glasses with me today and I couldn't recognize your face from afar, that's why I approached you to see if you're a friend, but I can't recall that were friend as well. Anyways, we can start being friend now, I'm Helyne by the way, and you are?' Friendly putting out her hand for a shake as she introduced herself with a friendly dimples-smile.
'hehe, you're so friendly, I'm Carlos, you can call me Carl, nice to meet you.' Reaching out for her hand as I politely introduced myself. Then I noticed that her fingers are small and soft. Beautiful!
Then, her friend returned (I seriously pray he's just a friend), and she rushed back to her seat. He must have asked her about me as they looked to my table, I saw her smile as she talk and look my way.I was supposed to leave before the sun set as my normal routine here, however, today I decided to stay as long as she stays. Then finally, the sun sets, they called for the bill and prepared to leave the cafe. Then she walked to my table again and said her goodbye. She's always seems so happy, she smiles easily even when she walks. As to my reaction when she spoke, I rushingly stood up and replied her with 'be safe' (so old fashioned, I know), then followed her leaving quietly.
As she departed in separated car of her own with her friend, I left in mine too. I quietly drove behind her all the way to the city and found out she's staying in the neighborhood nearby my university. Then I guessed right away that she must have went to my university too, that's why she seems familiar.
Did not think much, I drove back to my home with the thoughts of her for the whole drive still wondering how could I have met her somewhere that I did not become her friend right away before when she's this friendly. What do you think of the familiar face? Did something ever happen between the two of them? If so, what kind of chemistry you think they shared? what events await them?
